Just wondering can you put an external wastegate on a wrx?
And if you can what are the benefits? Is there a thread on how to install and are they pricey? Thanks guys

To answer your question- Yes; you can put an external wastegate on a wrx. Should you? Probably not. There are plenty of nice internally gated turbo upgrade avaialable for the WRX. The purpose of an external wastegate is that, in general, it gives better control of boost than an internal wastegate. An internally gated turbo uses a "flapper" which opens when the boost pressure reaches the desired maximum pressure. This allows the excess exhaust gas to bypass the turbine. The problem is that when you run really high boost levels there is a lot of gas in there to vent off. Sometimes the internal wastegate hole is not big enough to get those gases out of there quickly enough. This is also known as boost creep. An external wastegate has a much larger opening. It allows all of the excess gases to escape before they even reach the turbo and it provides a more accurate control of boost pressure. But, it's really only needed for very large turbos. You would be much better off to go with an internally gated turbo- pluys that way you have more choices on exhaust components that are designed for the WRX.

Actully you have it backwards. The LESS boost you run, the more gas needs to bypass the turbo and thereby needing a larger opening for the wastegate.
