Question Knock Knock, A new motors at the door

Well yesturday my motor developed a bad knock. So after alot of pondering, i think im going to just get a new motor and put it in, but heres the questions I would like something along the lines of a stage 1 block and stage 1 heads from cobb but is there a cheaper way for me to get to about the same amout of power. Any sugestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks if advance

Get an sti short block and put some higher compression pistons in it. Then have the heads p&p'd at a local(good) performance shop and throw some cams in it. Should run @3500-4k.

Do you realize that Cobb blocks and heads generally take 4-6 months? Unless you think your car has that much life in it, you had better just get a stock EJ25 engine and then have your original engine as a core to be built up later...

$2000! What a freaking rip off. They go for $1500 or less from NASIOC vendors...

i can give it to you but, the work is done by a mechanic here. (hes subaru certified, actually the best one here he swapped my motor and did all my upgrades) but unless you wanna pay dealer prices its done off the books and has no ties to the dealership at all.

well id need a major tune up along with new pads put on for my 4pots and im going to do sloted and drilled rotors all the way around. I'd like to have the engine ported and polished and i'm trying to decide on what cams i want to go with. i already have a ACT heavy duty clutch with a lightened fly wheel , rallispec intake with catch can, scoobysport exhaust as far as engine mods go. Any suggestions? I was going to turbo it with parts i collected but decided i didn't want to get into that mess so, i sold every thing i had and now i'm deciding how i want to buil it up N/A.

well this is what i did till i ran out of money...
i also started with a 98 2.2L engine

bought a 2.5 L engine
unorthodox racing light weight flywheel (11lb) and light weight crank pully
port & polish
headers back exhaust
custom intake
i have a wrx tranny havnt put it in yet though
exedy stage 2 clutch
nology hotwires (sparkplug wires)
ngk iridium sparkplugs
cobb tuning spicy camshafts

thats what i have for now.
i need to upgrade my fuel pump, injectors, suspension, and ignition.

i was thinking about buying an sti shortblock and turboing the hell out of it but thats alot of $$$$ and i dont have it right now.
