Default Is the new 2005 stock head unit better than the 02-04 model?

Does anybody have any specs on the new 2005 head unit? Was wondering if it would be any kind of an upgrade. Thanks in advance!

Dave

it seems better. the sound is better because they have the upgraded speakers in the car because in the past it was an option. for me, the sound is fine.

if they changed anything it would be an upgrade. this is the worst sounding stock system i have ever heard, tie with my friends $5500 NEW kia....

worst speakers ever, horrid weak power from HU, very poor reception in the 2002... so bad.

I don't have the specs but the stock setup doesn't sound good at all.
If the MY05 is an improvement I can't imagine how bad the previous ones must sound.

This isn't a complaint, I listen to the car most of the time anyway.
I'd have to say the stock sound system is the weakest part of the car.
Of course, in a performance oriented car, that's a good thing.

The headunit is actually putting out about 20-22 watts per channel...actually not bad. Most aftermarket ones are putting out just barely higher, if not the same. The biggest downfall is its lack of connections. If it had pre-outs, mp3 capabilities, or i-pod hook-up it would be another story.

New speakers do this system magic. Huge difference.

Any suggestions on speakers that will just drop in? Most people say that unless you add an amp, new speakers aren't going to do you much good, since anything of decent quality requires more power to drive it. If there were a way to improve the stock setup, even marginally, without adding an amp I would like to try it.

it will cost you 300 for a basic alpine hu and some type s speakers on ebay. its a night and day difference from stock and for that price its worth it. I to swore i wasnt going to spend money on the radio when im really into the performance upgrades. that mindset changed after driving the car and listening to the radio for 3 days.
