Question just curious.....

dumb question here, but anybody here knows at what the rpm should be while goin 70 mph. on a 98 gt? kinda seems high and the feels like it stuck on 3rd gear or somethin, unlike the other cars that i drive (camary & pathfinder) they go around 2k-2.5k

I'm not sure, since I've got a 5 spd. I'm assuming (bad move!) that you're talking about an automatic. I'm willing to bet that it's probably up around 3400 to 3500 rpm. Anybody else know for sure?

Do the other cars have v6 engines? If so, then they could gear them like that and still have enough grunt to run good.

Talking RPMs

I have driven a lot of cars but this is my first Sub. I bought the car 2 days ago and thought the same thing(i have 5 sp GT). It seems to run at higher RPMs. I think alot has to do with the feel. The Subs run a little rougher and louder than Honda and Nissan. Which I really like, but look at the redline on your car thats pretty high. The torque is GREAT! My Maxima ran at 3000 at 80 it was a 3.0 6.

The 2.5 is a fairly small engine for this large a vehicle. It's geared high to maintain torque/HP at higher speeds. 70mph should be around 3k RPM, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, the 2.5 GT auto rns about 3K@ 70mph. I have driven a 2.5V6 Dodge avenger and a 3.0V6 Galant, which both run 500-700 rpm less than my Gt. Much more quieter running at a lower rpm. Probably AWD cars have short gears to motivate all extra drivetrain.

My 5 speed revs at 3K around 70mph. Which is perfect, b/c the engine bogs @ 2.75K in 5th gear, but at 3K, I'm in the engines "sweet spot" and I can pass people w/o down-shifting

My Turbo wagon was cursed with a 4EAT and 3.9 gearing, but i'm barely over 4700 RPM at 125MPH

I think i'm between 26 and 2800 at 70, but i'm not exactly sure.

My LSi with 4.11 and 0.67 OD is about 2700. 3000 rpm is closer to 75.

hmmm, I think it maybe mental, but it felt like my car was running really slow after installing my new tires even though it was the right size. (too smooth ) I also noticed that my RPM seemed lower. Going at 80mph, I am running around 3500rpm. (driving a MT)
Seems like everything is running normal after hearing you guys about your RPM speed.

I guess I didn't really care much about my RPMs until recently, and I've had this car how long?

Well, I finally remembered to doublecheck mine today. My 5 spd turns about 3150 rpm at 70 mph.
