News Just In! Subaru announces it's going PRO Stock Drag Racing.

Well my buddie Davy just called me from the SEMA show in Vegas. Subaru just announced that they're going Pro Stock Drag Racing and with AWD. The guys from Easy Street are getting the funding. Seems like the girl driver they were searching for will be driving the current 9sec WRX they have and the guy who owns Easy Street will be driving the new Pro Stock car.

Guru

P.S. I and a few other people personally think Subbie should have gone through with the effort to get a car in the Rolex Grand-Am Series. Still keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Here's a pic of the Driver, quite cute if you ask me. Well she'll be driving the 9sec. WRX that competes in Super Stock, Super Comp, some class like that...

yeah... that thing sure looks RWD... if not it'll shred some diffs with the tire size difference...

and does that girl know how to drive, or is this car so easy to drive you can just stick a pretty face in there... <--- This comment isn't to say that attractive women can't drive, but she sure looks like a model more so than a drag racer...

well, it looks awd, cause the front tires seem to be pretty big, not little skinny bike tires.

as far as shredding diffs, it only has to last for 1/4 mile...

That is not AWD, the rear wheel sits higher off the ground and the front wheel does not have a lot of depth.

She's the girlfriend of Scooter Hamlin, another local up and comer drag racer and the son of a co-worker of mine, so no IDP comments, please.

Yes, she can drive.

agree. That front wheel, while no big fatty like the rear, -appears- to be quite a lot wider than the typical 'runner' you see on a RWD drag-car.

No one said it has to be anywhere near 50/50 torque split... 30/70 or whatever would probably do just fine. Gearing could quite easily be adjusted between the ends of the car to offset tire-diameter diffs I would think... even the tire growth of the rear slicks at speed only lasts for a couple of seconds. As Sam says... only has to go 1/4 mile.

More pics of the car in a racing environment would be nice... it could be that they put fat front tires on just for appearances sake at this press event or whatever it is.

I think a better question is: when are we going to see nudie-pics of the driver!

well let's say hypothetically it IS AWD, just because the tires are mismatched does NOT mean it will roast the diff's.... AWD != equal tire size.... I do however agree that that car does not look AWD...

Well good luck to her. I just wish they would have given the job to someone who needed it (ME). I guess you had to know someone in the business, and be "pretty" and prove you know how to drive. Even though the ad said "No experience needed" I have experience taking my car to the track, I'm not UGLY, but I don't know anyone in the business. So since I didn't know anyone, I was screwed b4 they even looked at my application. OH WELL!

99% of the world is who you know not what you know.

Well it doesn't seem possible, but that's what Davy told me over the phone. He was there at SEMA during the press release. It looks like a RWD car to me but it would be EXTREMELY difficult for Subaru (Fuji Heavy Industries) to bring a RWD car to the racing table when there Marketing is geared nearly 100% towards the advantages of AWD. I agree that maybe the split can be something like 30/70, then again there is an AWD Eclipse/Talon already running mid 8's.

Aren't the Pro Stock Imports running high 6's or low 7's? OUCH that's going to be hard for any diffs, drivetrain components if it is AWD. Then again if Subbie does bring AWD to the drag racing table we can hope some of those parts make it down to the little guy in the aftermarket world. Mmmm let the goodies start, super strong axles, diffs, etc...Haha, not like I'll be able to afford any of the parts anyway.

It's a same that the world is like that. When I'm old enough to run for president, I'm going to change all that when I get elected.

Shes run 8.0s in the 1/4 shes not a n00b. They picked the best driving pretty face they could find(selection was based on reaction times, experiance, and how the interacted with fans/executives)

Since Subaru is going Pro Stock racing, will you get a year's membership to the NHRA in the glovebox now?

Is the NHRA 'Pro Stock' class the one they're talking about? Have rules changed?.. they used to prohibit cars w/power adders.... but, I'm only remembering Buddy Ingersoll and his turbo Buick Regal back in the '80's... got banned w/in like 2 events of debuting the car...

Perhaps the NHRA is modernizing? Whoa! Cool!
