Hmmmmmmm, I hate to say it but if you plan on beating Supras, you've got another thing coming. You could sneeze on a Supra and run it into the 11's in the 1/4. *shrug*

you never know, it could be an older Supra...

As for road domination, Cobb tuning has a nice selection of wallet slimming equipment well suited for the WRX. www.cobbtuning.com

Other than a 6 week lead time for some STi gear, I have no complaints.

Get ready to create a plan and spend some money. The WRX does not have the advantage of 50% more displacement and an extra turbo. At a minimum, you will need:
TECII or something similar (includes injectors, fuel pump, boost control, etc.)
a larger turbo
a fmic or a seriously good top mount or an A/L
a turbo-back 3" exhaust
a willingness to be very nice to your tranny (or get a dog set)
a clutch (might as well do a lightened flywheel at the same time)
a front lsd would be nice
a solid suspension, minimum of struts and springs. I would also do the aluminum a-arms, as they will drop alot of unsprung weight.
wheels and tires (gotta run bigger rubber for all that power, can't do that on the narrow stockers)

This would be a seriously fast car. Seriously fast, maybe too fast until you practice at a road course.

a good investment in all of your mods is weight reduction. If you want to stay full interior, you will need to get creative via serious body panel replacement, etc (and I am not talking about just the hood). If we could devise a formula for retaining the interior while dropping say 200 lbs overall, it would seriously rock (and help save the tranny)

All this being said, you can still make a Supra faster. Your car will be loads more versatile, and be able to put power down in most of those situations where a big supra _will_ be slow.

And, of course, as always, race him in the rain =) He will quickly be jealous of something he can never achieve...much like you and his 1000 possible horse..

stay safe, don't go lambo!
rob

Oh and as final note, be careful out there. Racing is one thing, but being reckless about it is another.

If you are talking about a Mach IV Supra - then you had better look for one broken down on the side of the road or redifine what performance means to you! WRXs are not drag cars. They have HUGE drivetrain losses.

I own a modified TT Supra and a modified MY99 WRX. The Supra has had about $3k worth of mods more than the WRX. The Supra now develops over 400kw ATW versus the WRX's 170+kw (on the same dyno).

In a straight line they are chalk and cheese, the Supra just EATS the WRX alive! If I head to some mountain roads, then the WRX comes into its own and the Supra dissappears in the rearview mirror as quickly as the WRX does in the Supras on the highway.

It is horses for courses. Given a tight bit of blacktop and a modified, well sorted WRX is almost unbeatable. Just look to capitalise on what the base car does inherintly well, and you can't go wrong.

Post A Corvette can beat a Lamborghini!

Hey, on the news last night a Corvette beat a Lamborghini street dragging out in Long Island, NY....

the Lambo hit a Volvo (innocent bystander) head-on...

both drivers killed...

Corvette driver (winner) is being charged with 2 counts of manslaughter.

Sorry about that, but sometimes it takes someone else acting stupid to remind you not to.

Back to the topic: If you want to beat a real sports car, buy a real sports car!

I heard about that corvette and lamborghini race on the news. i heard two kis were killed also i believe. Just be safe and don't put others in harm. As for beating those twin turbo supras, good luck. you have to rememer they have more displacement, one more turbo, and 2 more cylinders. Also when new, they were about 45k. They can be made super fast for cheap. Just take him on some nice mountain turns and leave him behind.

^ I second that motion. Or get a F-body or something designed to go straight instead of turn like a WRX

Default Well...

I love Supra's as well as the WRX, but you are exactly right- apples to oranges. Although now that Imprezer is running 0-60 in 4.4 sec and 1/4 mile in 12.8- that is Supra territory. I think when the STi comes to the US it will be possible to get a WRX into 300HP and compete with a BPU Supra. Keep in mind that their are some 800+HP Supra's out there but still....if you could get a WRX to run a mid 11, you'd be able to compete with the big dawgs....I will have both, a modded out STi and a Supra TT. Great cars!!

Default Okay...

FWIW, you don't need to look for a "broken down ghetto ass" Supra at all.

Sure, they upgrade easy, and you never know what mods the guy in the next lane has, but as far as stock, magazine tests over the years of the MkIV Supra seemed to average mid 13's. Sure, there were faster ones, there were also slower ones, but I've seen 13.4 - 13.6 more often than not. This is just fact based on the articles...I'm not trying to rip the Supra.

Stock for stock, they'll whoop on the WRX. Am I nervous about rolling up next to a stock Supra in the other lane? Not one bit.

Exactly what were you thinking when you bought the WRX? Did you think it was the fastest car out there or something? You get 227 factory horsepower coupled with a kicka$$ all wheel drive system, and the first time you see someone faster than you you feel like you need to mod the car, because it's not enough? You knew what the WRX was capable of when you bought it, if you think it's too slow, then buy some other car that's faster. Simple. I can't understand these guys who went and bought the car, and now whine that it's too slow.

YOU DRIVE A WRX! NOT A SUPRA! YOU WANT A SUPRA? BUY A SUPRA!

dominate the road? buy a Navigator bodykit.

but seriously who cares if you are 19 or 91. DON'T STREET RACE. Driving a fast and fun car is one thing. Killing someone else is another. Get off-road and have some fun in the dirt. It'll kill the Supra.

just my 2 cents.

oh and it sounds like you have more money than brains if this is your approach. the WRX is not a drag car.. fastest WRX is about 10 secs for the 1/4 mile.. fastest supra is a damn site faster than that.. there are daily driven supras that are in the 9's
