Unhappy Question about the local Qickie lube.

I get my oil changed at the local Qlube/qickie lube about every 3000 to 5000 miles. I almost never go to the same place twice because of time constraints. Everytime I go in the shop kid says that the differentail fluid needs to be changed or the anti-freeze needs to be changed and flushed. It's almost always something different. I never go for it. I just tell the kid to change the oil (and filter, of course) and I'll be on my way. Is he just trying to sucker me? How could the differential fluid become contaminated? I get a "full" service when the manual says to (30,000 miles, 60,000 miles, etc.) and the mechanic always says that the thing is running strong. He tells me to change the oil every 3,000 miles and the car will run well for 100,000 miles. Who's right?

Thumbs down

Those quickie places make their money from charging you for things you don't need (i.e. radiator flush/tranny fill, etc.) Just follow the basic maintenance schedule in your manual and you'll be fine.

Besides, doing your own oil change is pretty easy on an Impreza -- why don't you do it yourself?

LaterZ!

They are just trying to get you to buy more stuff.

Oil places good for oil, if that.

Like your name.

I don't change my own oil because I don't feel like it. I build and maintain my own mountian and road bikes so, I'm fiarly mechanically inclined. However, I don't own the tools to change the oil, I have no way to dispose of the waste and, I don't feel like crawling under my car. It costs five dollars more than what I'd pay for the supplies myself (case of oil and filter). It's just not worth my time to do it myself.

Thanks for the advice. I'll stick to the maintenance schedule and, use the qlube for oil changes only.

Trust me, it IS worth your time to do it yourself. I have had numerous friends complain of the following:

Stripped drain plugs
Stripped Filter nipples
NO OIL IN CAR!! (true, I swear!!)

These guys at oil places are $5 per hour kids, not mechanics. They have no clue what they are doing. Do you really trust them with your $20K car? I don't.

Versun Jetericks was the leader of the Gauls of southern France during Julius Caesar's rule of Rome. Caesar wanted to expand his empire into southern France. He planned on building a massive infrastructure to import water across the rugged coast and down to Rome (this eventually happened later).

Versun Jetericks and Julius Caesar fought for years. Jetericks was able to rouse all the tribes of Gaul to fight against Caesar. Previously, they had never been able to defend against intruders because they were constantly fighting with each other. Caesar couldn't loose to the Gauls so, he took slaves from Greece and Albania to help in the fight. Versun Jetericks was outnumberd and was eventually defeated by Caesar's ever growing army. The Romans, as we know, eventually conquered nearly all of Eurpoe.

I picked the name because it sounds cool and, it's got a good story with it (sorry for the off topic but, somebody asked).

I don't change my oil because that's for kids that get paid five dollars an hour. I don't want to get my Armani suit dirty climbing under my car and, yes, I've heard all the stories about qlube. I've also heard stories about fast food workers spitting in food. Believe it or not, I still eat fast food.
