Default Getting to Stage 4 (hear me out)

I have a UTEC, Turbo inlet, CAI, TBE, uppipe. Typical stage 2.

After getting the UTEC, I planned on going turbo inlet, fuel rails, fuel pump, injectors, turbo(vf 34/39), and fmic. And having the injectors, turbo, and fmic installed at the same time and then take it in for a dyno-tune. Well, I have done the turbo inlet. I'm a HS student, so money is an issue. Currently, I have $220... and make about $140/week. Figuring everything out, it'll cost around $1600~ for the rest of the parts, given I use the "Parts for Sale" forum.

My question: Do I need the fuel rails? Can I install them after I have my stage 4 setup and map, and still retain the rails' functional characteristics? Do they require remapping? To optimize them do they require remapping?? Do they add/remove horsepower depending on if they are part of the tuning??

Any help is much appreciated.

You dont need new rails just injectors, also you can skip the IC and inlet for now and just get a retune later.

BTW dont spend all your money on a car. I did that and I am kicking myself now. I droped 5k in my car in high school. I wish I spent that money on something better now... like saved for a house or having real fun. Its hard to say when your friends are all going off snowboarding and you cant for you just installed subs.... And get some wheels and brakes now.

Got 17" Tarmacs. Thanks for the advice, I try and save $20 a week. It's not alot, but think of it as $1000/year. Not too bad.

Fuel Rails aren't Necesary, and just do TMIC, you don't need FMIC unless you go GT30R turbo or like, Just get a better TMIC and a HKS BOV and you'll be fine.

you don't need a bov.

don't bother with the fmic either. you may not even need a TMIC. The stock one won't be ideal, but it will work fine. Just wrap your turbo well and don't do 10 stop and go drag runs.

So...

fuel pump - $50 used
VF30 (cheapest, and just as good) - $400
injectors - $300

you also need a decent tune
and sell your CAI, the stock airbox is fine

One thing you aren't budgeting for is the cost of replacing/fixing things that break. This should be a part of your plan, as you will be running the car at a significantly higher power level than stock. With what you make, you will be in a lot of trouble if your tranny/engine goes.

And don't get cheap with turbo/fuel system mods. Your best bet is to buy new, or at least have your used parts tested to be sure everything is in working order. Also, you can save a lot of money by installing parts yourself or having friends help. Shops charge a lot and oftentimes offer marginal quality vs. what you can do at home.

And yes, you will probably need a BOV if you're running more than 18-20 psi, but you can find one cheap on the private for sale forum.

Good luck!

he's gonna be running a vf30, no need for a BOV. if you HAVE you get one because you want to run 22 psi on a vf30 then get a sti recirculating valve.

As long as he isn't an idiot, he should be fine with a vf30. The people that breaking stuff with 250 whp are probably the same type of people that break stuff with the stock turbo.

Get a good tune. That would be the only thing that I splurge on. You can get a used VF30 and pinks from a reputable vendor on these boards for cheap. That's all you need (aside from the fuel pump).
