Same thing happens here, I've heard that this is quite common. It's happened to my 03 about 8 times over the past 2 years and temperature did not seem to be a common factor.

I fixed mine by replacing the fuel filter. Now, everytime it starts to happen more often, I replace the filter and the problem goes away for 20,000 miles. Bad gas (water) kills filters. This could be the cause for low milage cars.

My car did it twice with just under 6k miles. I've got 8k on it now....I'll try the trick Unabomber gave and see if this helps.

I knew someone with an 02 and it never did that. I have an 04 and it doesn't start once in a blue moon. If I try again, it always starts up. So you guys may be right about 'priming' the fuel

Tip : Before you crank and car.. turn you key to on position and let the fuel pump get primed before you crank the car..
what i normally do is get in the car put key to on position put on seat belt close door and then crank.
try it.. it helps.. i find this tip from other thread with ppl having similar problem.

This happens to me also and my car is stage 4. Long crank is usually a bad check valve in the fuel pump, leaky injector, low battery voltage or right after you reset the ecm. A buddy of mine is gonna do a fuel pressure test. You might want to try that also.

I dont understand how swapping a batttery out will solve the problem. If the engine is cranking, then the battery is doing it's job.

Mine does this as well occasionally. Read the owners manual. It says you can crank the engine for 10 seconds. If it doesn't start, wait, then try cranking again giving it a bit of gas.

I turn my car (04 rex) to the 'on' position to get the fuel pump going all the time before starting it. But I still do get the random no start as you guys mentioned. When this happens I can give it a bit of gas and it will start or stop cranking it and try again and it will start. I thought I was the only one too haha.

I had this problem a couple of times when I first got the car (stock). Called roadside and had it towed to the dealer. They said that a sensor in the clutch wasn't working and needed to be recalibrated. They fixed it for free and it hasn't happened for as long as I can remember.

I've had this problem before...I never thought the fuel filter might have fixed it.

I always noticed it if I parked for 2-3 hours then tried to start it.

Now I try to remember to turn the key to "On" for a few seconds before I turn it to Start, and it hasn't done it in a long time. But I also replace the fuel filter every 15K, so that might have helped it too.

Lack of fuel pressure is one thing it could be.. I took mine to the dealer and it did it to him. But he told me they did not find anything wrong. I left my car with them because they were replacing my wheel bearings and when I got the car back it has never done that again. So it seems they fixed it and did not tell me what they did.
