Good Job! What's the story on the Impreza's? How'd you beat them? I would've thought that they'd have an advantage.

Yep, they should've cleaned up....
I ran on BFG G-Force KD Street tires He ran on A032 R Compounds. Event 3 I beat the same Imp. by 2 seconds... His time 95.??? My time 93.??? Your guess is as good as mine. Just happy about the performance of my Legacy.... Oh Yeah, gotta give credit to Yoshi of http://www.japanese-auto.com for the custom valve adjustment, gives lots more torque at 3000 RPM. I was thinking about getting a set of cams for my car and I wasn't too sure about the metalized and ground cams that Cobb was selling. I've heard lots of stories about Yoshi so I decided to check him out....
I explained to Yoshi that I do Autocrosses and require more power in the 3000 - 5500 RPM range and asked him for the alternatives. He explained that he can put in a new ECU with custom fuel and timing maps, and that's 1 way. Then I spoke to him about Cams, and told him that I was thinking about the Cobb Tuning cams. He explained that sometimes, you can get as much as 10 HP, depending on the state of tune, from your car with a simple valve adjustment. That surprised me.... He can set the overlap / valve timing by modifying the valve gap. He took my car in and adjusted the valves, the first result was really dismal, no torque until 5000 then zooooom. We got back to the shop and he drew a RPM vs Power graph and asked where I needed more. After we finished the graph, he took the car back into the garage, adjusted the valves (cold) and when I picked it up at the end of the day, all I could say was WOW!!! Normal acceleration until 2500 RPM, %10 (about) more torque between 2500 - 3500, and 3500 - Redline, goes like stink. Acts like a VTEC above 3500, tone changes, and pulls like a madman. All that for $283.00 Canadian.... He also has Maxim Works EJ25 Equal Length Headers in stock, (guess what's next...) |

Hi Joe,
How long does it take for him to adjust the valve? For my DOHC, he needs to work from ground again? Do I need to leave him the car over the weekend? How much is the MAXIM header? later.. Ernest PS. got to join your guys in the autox and sit in your car! |

Hi Ernest,
It takes the whole day, just 1 day. The engine needs to be cool. He has the specs already. Call him and make an appointment, and leave the car there in the morning, pick it up in the afternoon. He does great work... Tibor is getting his done for the Pro-Solo on Monday... The Maxim Works Header will set you back about close to $2K, because he has to replace the 2 cats with 1 high flow metal core cat. Come out to the AutoX events. You are welcome to come for a ride any time.... |
