Unlimited on rear and back side doors. No tint on the front doors or the windshield. it's kind of funny. You can have 5% on the rear and nothing at all on the front. Looks dumb.

The listings for Oregon are wrong. The front doors are 35% but it is unlimited on the rest. I have 35% and 5%. In the right light it can look odd, but most of the time it looks nice on my white gt wagon.

Actually Oregon like many other states considers wagons as SUV's with respect to tint laws. Only the front windows are limited to 35%.
Tint laws are for the most part ignored here in Texas, I have been tinting for years and have yet to have a personal vehicle that was anything close to legal and no tickets yet. I have tinted the entire windshield on several of my cars and still no tickets...

NC's is wrong from the SUV standpoint. Wagons are considered cars here though, so 35% all around. I forget what SUV's rears are... 20% maybe?

Like the list states, CO is 27% and I run 20% without any hassle. My G/F got pulled over for her license plates though, and the cop was suspicious so he checked and she had to pull her 20% off...meh

Although a stupid idea, technically you can tint the windshield to 80% in CO (despite the fact that clear glass diffuses to about 83%, so that's basically a clear bra, but technically...it's on the books)

The listing for CA is wrong as well:

Quote:
(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and
transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the
front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the
front seat if the following conditions are met:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88
percent.

i have 38% all around, drove from minnesota to new york, and have never been hassled. its dark enough to do a nice job in sunlight and u can't see in the car at night, but it sill looks semi-legal during the day.

In Maine I am not quite sure what the legal limit is and I dont think that chart is correct. I have 20% tint all around. Its pretty dark but it wont pass inspection. Maine Has some pretty ****ed up laws around here. Concerning the tint issue many vehicles come from the factory with very dark tint in the rear windows, much darker than mine and because it is "factory tint" its legal.

......cops are generally not that stupid. I've seen friends do this and they were asked to roll up their windows partially so they could verify. Besides, more often than not, the officer has already seen the tint before he pulls you over.

I would think that a cop can't ticket you for illegal tint unless they have a device used to test the light transmission of the tint. Obviously if local law states you can't have any tint on your window and you've got something noticeable like 35% or darker then you wouldn't need such a device. Sorry if it sounds naive but its the reason cops use radar guns; they need to be able to objectively prove that you were speeding. One of my friend's neighbors is a local city cop and I've asked him about illegal tint. He said he's never stopped anyone for it but will ticket them if they're stopped for something else and its obvious they're too dark - which around here means 5% or so. His personal rule was as long as he can see the occupants then he won't say anything.

Reminds me of some stories I'd read (and taken w/a grain of salt) about cops in CA that would pull people over and ticket them for loud exhausts but didn't have any devices capable of measuring the actual dB level of the exhaust. Not sure if that's true or not though.

In California the law was recently changed so the LEO only had to say that the exhaust was loud. It's illegal in CA to modify the exhaust to make it louder. That's not part of the whole CARB BS, but it's part of the Calif V.C. Used to be they had to have a sound level meter (db meter...) and it was 95db at 50', but now it's left up to the LEO's discretion.

-Peter

recently moved out of California. don't know if I'd go back...

I'm not trying to bash on you, but I'm curious where you got this info from? Officers have never been required to carry db meters from what I remember. It's always been up to their discretion. What currently happens (from what I understand) is that you have to go to a "referee" station of sorts to have the exhaust tested for excessive noise (after receiving the ticket). Hopefully someone who has been in this situation could clarify this.

In some cases I feel these tickets can be unfair. ......guilty until proven innocent.

I have no idea what is legal in Louisiana. I run 15% on the doors and 5% on the back. I have never had a problem with the cops about it. Down here all the cops carry the little meters to test your tint.
