why would overall speed affect the A/C??? Or, why would A/C affect the overall speed? Is that your question?

I don't think it affects top speed at all. It certainly draws on engine power, so it affects acceleration, but that's it.

I haven't even noticed a difference in engine temp when I'm in traffic with the ac on. It certainly won't hurt anything. If it's making the car overheat or something, you have a problem that needs to be checked out!

The A/C compressor will shut off at full throttle ( at least that is what i have heard) and will therefor not affect top speed in the slightest (since you'll be flooring it to achieve top speed)

if it didn't shut off at full throttle though, the top speed should be lower because the AC uses power from the engine (lowers hp, through the whole band) meaning peak hp would be lower --> lower top speed... unless our cars are drag limited, like i've heard, but i find it hard to believe for this reason and others: wrx ver. 3 or 4 or 5 or whatever all had top speed higher than ours and about the same styling, so i don't think you've hit the drag limit yet =) maybe if i put a greddy lip on, but those are cool looking

no iwas worried high speeds with it on could damgage the compressor. since usually the car is going at city speeds when the ac is on....

The speed of the compressor is engine speed related (i.e. - it is revelant to RPM) and is not in any way related to wheel speed. So travelling 90 with the engine at 4k will have the compressor spinning the same as at 20 MPH (or wherever 4k RPM is in first gear).
