Why dont you drive a RWD car if you are gonna put it away for the winter? What a waste.

Put in an air suspension with ride height adjustment. Much cheaper than parking it all winter long.

I wish I had snow to drive in at my house You guys are lucky. As for the poster, i say take the CF lip off for the winter, get some snow tires, get the 3M protector stuff if you are worried about the paint and take your car and be greatful for your snow lucky bugger.

I agree. Get yourself a set of 15" Steel rims and a set of Blizzaks. Although that 3m stuff i don't like.

For the amount of money you will save on the Nissan and insurance for it, you could afford a paint touch up every year.

I miss my xt6

anyway I'll be driving my wrx all year... that's why I bought it... although it pains me to put it through these NY winters

The 87 Nissan Pathfinder isn't a very good car for winter. I had a friend who had a early 90's Pathfinder, he was in the mountains on holidays and he hit a patch of ice on an otherwise bare road. He spun into a minivan destorying both vehicles and got hurt, to a small degree, at the same time. The mini van had all it's windows smashed and the little kids inside were all cut up.

Why did this happen? Part time 4wd. He was in RWD mode when he hit the ice and lost control.

If your going to be driving an 87 4x4 your not going to be in 4wd unless it is all ice and snow. If you drive it like you would your Subaru, well you too will be finding out the difference between AWD and RWD.

Fix the Subaru and drive it instead. Besides when you do get into an accident your Subaru is much safer.

During the winter, I'm only going to be driving my Subaru on mornings when we have fresh, unsalted snow. As soon as the salt goes down, my car is getting parked. I didn't buy my subaru to have it rust out. I've worked on enough rusty subarus.. no fun.

Besides, my escort with good snow tires is twice the snow car my subaru is with all-seasons... and it's expendable.

When I get mine, it'll be going away for the winter too. Only because I have another AWD Scooby of course. I don't know though, I like driving my OBS in the snow more than the WRXes I've driven. It just has more low end due to the displacement and seems a bit more fun to drive in the snow. Scooby nuts are the shizznit.

Ya, I don't get it, I love my car in the winter, I thrive in it. Especially the fact that it's not as speedy as the WRX's and STI's out there, I love being in my 99 RS and still passing Z's and Mustangs with all the confidence on the road.

Being from West Virginia, I also love hitting snowing hills and backroads.

You shouldn't have to put your Subie away for winter

I know how the poster feels. Winter can do a job on any car's paint. My brand new WRX was very much trashed after the first winter. I was pissed at my self for not getting a clear bra.

Get summer tires, clear bra. Your lip is hard to damage after all.

Else, use the subbie on weekends, avoiding highway (damn trucks and sand trucks)

My Sti will sit in a nice cozy garage this winter, I know, but I'm a freak when it comes to salt, chips(clearbra installed ) rust, door dings, and all the other hazards Mi winters have to offer. I have a ranger 2x4 to drive so it should be an adventure! I drove a Pathfinder last winter and it was great so you should have no worries.

I don't think the poster needs flamed. I am putting away my turbo Subie for the winter. But I have a real winter car... the old 4x4 Subaru GL's. It's the best of all worlds for snow. Not fast enough to outrun unrated snow tires, true 4 wheel drive when you need it and FWD the rest of the time. Oh, and did I mention you can pick them up for under $500?

But the Legacy will come out for special occasions. It's kind of a special feeling you get in your stomach when the back end steps out in 4th gear under boost. (The bald RE730's might have something to do with that )

The Get Out and Drive (GOAD) team will be out in force this winter, looking for poor Subarus whose owners don't let them come out and play. Booo!

You haven't had true fun with your Soobie until you've raced it on a frozen lake.

Only to have it sink through the ice. Somebody did that a couple winters ago with their bug eyed 2.5RS.

I bought it mostly so I could drive it in the winter. In the summer I'd rather have a convertible, but since rain/snow season is 3/4 of the year here ... I got me a Subie.

Plus once the paint is all chipped up, I won't feel bad about taking it down some dirt roads.

Bah, ice race with the BMW club... You bet they triple check before they bring their M3s and M5s out to play.
