Hoses attached to intake, what are those?
I know that many Legacys there (if not all) have MAF sensor in the intake system. Well I have some sort of a different system, I think. There is two hoses (dia about an inch) connected to the intake system and I believe that those things measures air flow. These hoses leads back to the distributor which seems strange. Does anyone know if those hoses really are my Subies substitutes to MAF or am I mistaken.
First I thought that the ignition is checked from the hoses(the specrometer connected) until I found the ECU and ECM (and the wire harness) from my car. I believe they automatically sets the correct timing. So what in earth these hoses might be? I'm planning to replace the intake pipe to cold air intake system and these hoses must be reconnected to the new pipe system. I can't see any problems with it, but if someone has had similar situation or thoughts, please give me your oppinion. Thank you in advance. tony

the legacy motor is very simular to the RS.
only one hose is needed, the other is a breather. You can cap it off with a large bolt. If i'm not mistaken, the other is a valve for the ecu to bypass the throttle body... ever wonder how the car can raise it's rpm during cold starts without opening the throttle butterfly? wonder no more On my car, the one closer to the MAS is the one you have to keep connected into the intake (after the mas and filter of course). You'll know when you try to start your car. if it doesnt idle, just dies, you got the wrong hose. Hope that helps, g |

Thank you giulio, can't wait to figure out which one is the needed one - yes that helped a lot. So I can plug the "right" one on the new intake system.
I have plannings ready, but being a little short of time nowadays, haven't got it done. One thing, what is hard to find on this side of the moon is aluminium pipe. I'm no fond to the palstic. MY99 2.5GT: I only wish tony |
