Default WRC 2004 Telstra Rally Australia, Discuss here!

As Weasel said, "The King" is out after the recce off into a tree with his Lance GrpN car. Citroen has no plans to filll his seat.

Solberg is out for blood. Martin has other plans.

Expect the locals (Crocker) to put up a fight.

Petter hit a rock on SS4, boken steering, he is out. Restart tomorrow. Damn.

Martin is out. Meaning Solberg secures 2nd place in WRC drivers points.

Singh and Arai and McRae aint doing to bad.

Pretty lame rally with the anitclimax of Carlos and Martin/Solberg/Skoda/Mitsubishi/Gronholm being out.

The PCWRC was very exciting though. Congrats Niall!

Reliable Rovanpera always right there at the end

Are Super Rally rules new to the WRC this year? Interesting to see two cars end up running them.

My hat off to Marcus for popping two 307's in a weekend

That was quite a flip.

I always love to watch the Bannister stages, even if the leaderboard wasn't up for much change

Good Season for all...Congrats again to Seb.

It was funny how Marcus came back to test the 307 out "for next year". At least Marcus knows that the roll cage works very well. I'm glad nobody was hurt in that accident. I wish Carlos a speedy recovery.

So did nicky say that most of the electronics were being removed? Sounded like they would get rid of a lot of the active difs, paddle shifting, traction control stability control, etc.

He said it would be a month until the 'official' announcement, but I'm betting that he knows enough to be pretty accurate.

So does that mean it's all over? Solberg wins #2 and Subaru wins #3? The end till next year?

Sorry for being 'out of it' I'm just a bit behind the times =P

Was that nonsense I read awhile ago about WRC banning turbo's and Boxer engines actually true? Can someone do a quick sum up of the state of WRC?

Actually, I'm gonna go do some searching before I get the bejeesus flamed outta me.

Yes, the season is over.

As stated in the post above you, FIA has posted no official word on the changes they are going to make, but it is basically sure that changes will be made.

I doubt they will go so far as to ban turbocharging and AWD, etc. but you will probably see electronic differential switches and transistor controlled transmission go away. FIA wants to emphasize the driver skill, and not the electronic ability of the car. The reason for these changes is to make the WRC more privateer friendly (which I don't completely agree with) in 2006 when Peugeot and Citroen will most probably pull their WRC programs. Items like turbochargers are quite accessible to all, unlike the $100,000+ computer systems that the cars use now...that's where the rules will step in, IMO.

I'm not sure I liked the Citroen officials comment before the rally saying (paraphrase) "In the past 5 years, we have won two manufacturers championships and three drivers championships (I assume he refers to Peugeot and Citroen together)...we have proved ourselves"

Way to step on the spirit of ongoing competition...I know they are pulling out for market and financial reasons, but still...his words speak for themselves.

Anyways, we have at least one more season of the WRC as is! Is it January yet?

Default It's been a beautiful year for WRC...

In other news.....

Check out the pix from Rally-Live from the event. It was probably the most exciting thing that happened over that weekend.

I may have to brave the 24hr flight and hit up Branson for a one way to Perth on Virgin next year.

OMG!
