Yep..time to get a new one. Your sidewalls take a lot of load so don't chance it.

i didnt hit anything, i just happened to find out when i was checking the tires yesterday. u really think i need a new tire? coz the piece thats peeling of is a really thin piece, but i do understand that the sidwall is really important.

My guess it's OK, but you really should take it to a tire expert to have it checked out. Sidewall failure is definitely one of the things we least want to happen at speed.

yeah i'll wait till Luke to chip in. i dont trust the "professionals" at the tires shop here, they just want to make money off u. the reason i dont want to change it is because if i do im gonna change all 4 and thats a waste because those Pilot Sports arent even half worn yet.

I remember reading before (i think maybe here) that the outer rubber on the sidewall is for cosmetic purposes only. As long as nothing actually punctured and did damage to the sidewall itself under the rubber, you should be ok.

i believe by looking at the damage you should be able to see whether it continues into the sidewall materials or if it's just in the surface rubber
