Default check engine light blinking

Okay I doubt its a big deal but i am curious on what you guys may think. I have no cats and the car is tuned, but i always had a cel, but thats okay cuz i know its the exhaust causing that to be on. But now i notice sometimes when i punch it ,usually in 5th, the cel starts to blink on and off. Is it cuz of the cold weather or some bullshiet like that and me punching it, or should i really look into it..

I would be somewhat concerned about this...Most tunes on our WRXs/STis eliminate the cat inefficiency codes that you are referring to. Perhaps your tune does not. Now I am no expert on flashing CELs but the flashing cel may be the engine detecting knock and throwing the blinking CEL. It would definitely be worth going to the local autozone or pep boys and having your codes read. Good luck.

You should get a cel fix because assuming it is only on because of the emissions eliminates the entire diagnostics. Rather than speculating on the cause, pull the code. AZP has a reader and can tell you in no time flat.

Ya, what is the car tuned with. If you have a UTEC it flashes the CEL when the car is knocking.

yeah it is tuned with a utec.. I think im gonna lower the boost a little then. Maybe because of the weather there is some boost creep and it can be causing this. Unfortunatley my boost gauge is off and autometer sucks. But i am going to check this out asap!!! thanks alot guys.

Yea if you're in 5th and punching it at a low RPM, I bet it's some knock. Pull some timing.

do you still have the EGT sensor in there? WOT runs in 5th will def make for some hot exhaust!

Better yet, just avoid 5th gear pulls...it doesn't make sense to pass or otherwise go WOT in such an overdriven gear anyway. No need to adjust the tune as long as you have no det in gears 1-4...

For the past week and a half I've been datalogging and pulling timing on my utec, as I get the blinking CEL now, from cold weather. I think I've got most of it tuned out...its almost worthwhile to have a summer map and a winter map, lol

Yeahi just got back from turbo trix ad junior just changed my timing and allthat good stuff for this colder weather, but he and i both think it could be because of bad Fuel and a lil bit of boost creep. Time to lower that boost.

i was driving on the highway on a cold night it was about in the 40's my girlfriend tells me to go faster cuz she wants to go home. i step on it and im just about to hit 120 when the car feels like it hit a wall. Then the cruise light and the cel came on. the cruise light was blinking but not the cel. i kept driving and stopped at a gas station. i noticed that underneath the dash near the clutch a green connector or something was loose. i connected it to another plug that was hanging there. it fix perfect so i thought that it went there. when i started the car back up. the cel started to blink.

now im consider cuz ive been hearing that a blinking cel is not good. so i was wondering was me connecting that green plug near the clutch the reason for the blinking cel (hopefully) or could there be a major problem here.

this is my daily driver and i dont want to be driving it with that blinking cel if theres a major problem.

again the blinking cel did not come on untill i connceted that green thing.

im running all catless. 05 STi

anyfeedback would be great

Probably hit the boost cut originally, you probably have one of those salad bowl bell mouth downpipes that boost creep.

The green connectors are for diagnostics disconnect them.

If you haven't put in a fix for cat inefficiency you will eventually get a CEL again for that.

Unplug the green connectors. They are for a diagnostic mode only and should never be plugged together. If you do connect them the CEL will blink constantly, the fans will cycle and various relays and solenoids will go on and off.
And please don't do 120 on public roads.

those green connectors should be labeled "do not connect"... i was tempted to until a friend told me what happens when you connect them.
