Default Installing an Audiobahn amp, will I be able to use with the stock radio/cdplayer?

I have the factory premium sound package, will I be able to use this amp without getting a new head unit? (cant afford one this week )

What are you installing the amp for? Front components? Sub?

The answer is yes for either case though.

There are great Line Output Converter's (LOC) out there. The name David Navone comes to mind, but I don't know his URL off the top of my head...someone else will probably provide a link shortly.

And your priorities are reversed...you start a system with the best HU you can afford for your needs.

^^^^

And you looking to add an amp with the stock head unit and stock speakers???!!! Waste money on something like the hubcap spinners if you are looking to do something truly pointless. It would cost less.

Nope not gonna take it back....the pointless comment is valid. Adding an amp to the stock speakers/Stock HU part wont really do anything for you. You would do better hitting up Ebay or a local swap meet and getting something else to fill your door panels.

Or MAYBE ask one of us old geezers if they have an extra set of components that they would be willing to GIVE you. I MIGHT...JUST MIGHT...happen to know someone that has a set in his garage not doing anything that you could have.

And I know very much what I am talking about....

BryanH -> You have WAYYY too much stuff just sitting around, and you are far to kind with it. OT, Did you get my MO yet? Got the amps and it looks very nice; now the joys of an install which for the wife's truck will have to happen in the cold driveway.

AcquaCow -> Boy won't you feel silly for how easy it is... www.DavidNavone.com

Lockedowne -> There are a good handful of people that think an amp is the best *first* step toward a new system. And seeing how you have a free amp that is great. My advice though is to sell it and get a new HU as I (and many others) hate Audiobahn with a passion. If you do stick with the amp though, you definately want to get an LOC from the above link. It is your best bet.

If you do end up getting a LOC, I have a David Navone one for sale. PM me if you end up wanting it. I'll sell it to you for cheap.

I would have to disagree that it is completely pointless. I added a 4 channel alpine amp in my 05 WRX wagon to the factory radio powering the front door speakers and a sub. I am not looking to compete nor am I looking for correct staging or super sound quality. I just wanted something a little louder than stock that I could hear with the windows rolled down. Now, you have to understand that the 05 WRX came with the old optional upgraded front speakers and a much better radio. Now if this was a -04 car, I would have to agree that you would have to change the factory front speakers and possibly the factory radio. but for someone that just wants more bass, what harm is there by just adding a sub and amp? David navone claims his LOC's can make a factory HU competition quality.

We aren't nearly as snobbish for sound quality on here as others are on ECA, but to a large degree the handful of us who respond daily to questions all believe that SQ is important or we would just stick to the stock systems (the horror). It is an Audiobahn amp he has and not an Alpine. He also has a '00 RS and didn't mention anything about the upgraded stock radio which I doubt he has. In this situation I think it is fairly justified. I did also see that he posted the amp in the Private for Sale thread; although I seriously doubt anyone will come close to the asking price, but it doesn't hurt to try I guess.

Short point is an LOC might make a factory HU competition quality, but they will be last place everytime if it is also with stock speakers, a **** amp, and no sub.

offset - I totally agree but I was under the impression that BryanH was saying a stock stereo with a LOC is totally a waste of money. Maybe he just meant for this particular situation. I highly doubt lockedown was thinking about competing with his setup
