Question MagnaFlow Exhaust

Has anyone heard of MagnaFlow Exhausts before?? Just wondering b/c a local shop has them for a lot cheaper then all these other aftermarket exhausts and they tell me it'll give around a 5% total HP increase. Does anyone have any info about them?? I think I'll probly go with the Brullen, but I am wondering about the MagnaFlow since it's a lot cheaper....

Mantis69 - All I can say is that, you'll get what you pay for. Magnaflow stuff is more for domestics, it works, but not exactly optimal. As well, you're not going to get as good as performance as a system that's designed solely for the Subarus.

Thumbs up

I have a Magnaflow back box on my car and I am really happy with it. Nice deep tone, the car feels like it has more power. It's pretty comparable to the APEXi N-1, but less expensive. I have had absolutely no problems with mine.(had it for over a year now) Polished stainless, actually looks just like an N-1. It's all a matter of personal choice. Just my $0.02...

I have a scooby sport, but I really like the sound of the magnaflow and I've never really heard anything bad about the magnaflow.

Umm... You mean only the STi and SPT exhaust systems are optimal? What makes something like the Magnaflow not optimal? Just curious...

Magnaflow makes a nice muffler and it comes with a lifetime guarantee. There are come companies that do use them in their custom cat-back exhausts such as Rallispec. I have their fast road setup (full stainless cat-back with resonator) and I'm very pleased with this. I'd say go without a resonator at first to see if you like the sound and can live with the loudness, if not then have one added afterwards. Magnaflow makes a resonator as well. hope that helps. btw here are http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=63620 of my exhaust.

Rallispec uses Magnaflow mufflers on their exhaust system now... can't be that bad, can it?

Default it's funny...

When I asked this same question a month ago, almost everyone told me just to buy the Rallispec setup... no offense but I ignored it all and now have all the stuff to build my exhaust sitting in my room... heh... just waitin' to get the turbo in so I can make sure it fits. Anyway, I got the dual tip muffler and don't have a resonator. I'm hoping the turbo will keep things quiet. It looks great tho!

I have the Magnaflow set up with Resonator, and 2 1/4" piping. I love the sound of the exhaust, and the look of the polished SS is awsome. It's been on my car for about 1 1/2 years now.

I have a flange right on the back of my muffler, so I can change out the unit with others if I want a diff. look. I have that as a option, but basically I had it done so I can service the exhaust better. Plus I want to Jet-hot my mid pipe.

You don't have to spend alot to get a good exhaust.

Cheers

EddyL.

I am having the same dilemma! I do have some old high school friends that own a muffler shop and this is basically what they told me--I can get a Magnaflow muffler for around $60 and have the midpipe custom made to fit. I was also told that spending $500+ was rediculous for maybe a few more HP tops. And that the major difference was the fact that the expensive systems were bolt on applications. I am now trying to decide which muffler can and tip I like the best!

Does anyone else have any opinions on the matter, either pro or con-I am still not 100%. I did at one point have my heart set on the STi system.

Default my opinion

I got the magnaflow single 2.5" to dual 2.5" muffler and some 2.5" ss mandrel sections and pipe plus 2 2.5"ID/3.5"OD dual wall, polished tips for about $200. It was a pretty good deal and will look pretty good. It will be pretty loud tho, I think, and much larger than any stock muffler, but won't be outrageous like most of the 5" coffee cans out there. I think it's gonna look and sound pretty good. I'll let you know if I ever get it put together. Maybe some sound clips and photos.

Oh yeah, does anyone know the difference between Magnaflow's Race and Street applications and which would be better for NA?

OK-I just spoke to Magnaflow and they recommend the Street series for an NA aplication. It is not a true straight through muffler (being somewhat tuned?) and will not reduce the back pressure as much, helping to preserve some torque.

The race saries is a straight through design and supposedly too high flow for anything other than turbo or nitrous.

Any thoughts about this?

Default size does matter...

I think the race mufflers just come in larger sizes. They may also not have the absorbing material. I will say that the universal fit street single/dual muffler is nearly a straight thru pipe w/ small perforations and a Y joint... I don't know how you could get much better flow w/o a larger diameter...

oh I have the race series one, I was going with the street one, but the company called me back and said they were out, so I got the same model, but in the race series, now what I think of the Street vs Race is if you look on the Magnaflow web site the little bumps, they make the sounds, the Street muffler has about 75% of those little noise maker thingies, and the race has 100% so Im guessing that the race makes more sound than the street...I think? I did not notice any Hp losses at all only gain!
