Default Testing the waters: EJ20G complete swap

I might be selling my swap. It is a 1993 EJ20G from a JDM Legacy 2.0GT Closed deck motor with underpiston oil squirters. Has the small VF-10 turbo on it. AWIC intercooler that requires no hood scoop(needs a pump and heat exchanger). It comes with a 1994 WRX ECU and a stripped (ready to install in your 1st gen Impreza) wiring harness. This should run 220hp on US premium pump gas. Switching to a 90 degree inlet TD05 would hit close to 300. Comes with a front crossmember. Also has boost solenoid, pressure sensor, MAF and an SVX ignitor converted to run the coil on plug ignition. What's this worth to you?

Yep, in fact the harness was spliced into a 1990 Legacy and I decided that the car was too much of a POS to grace with the conversion. And I recently acquired a blown EJ257 shortblock and am selling the swap to finance the 12:1 CR pistons and rebuild to drop it into my crazy NA 2.5RS project.

I would like to get $1250 plus freight for the complete swap even though I am in for around $1400. I would also sell the '94 WRX ECU and already prepped wiring harness for $400 to someone who wanted to source an engine and crossmember local to them...

So would that be 850 for just the engine minus the harness and ecu? I'd love to have but and deffinately short on cash now. how soon are you wanting to sell? Are there any sites I can find info on this engine? Is it sohc? Thanks

-Courtney

--oh yeah did you also say it has coil over plug ignition?

Courtney,
Sure, I would sell just the engine for $850. Unfortunately, I no longer have home internet and all my tech bookmarks are on my home computer. This is what I can tell you about the engine:

It is a first generation EJ20G that was used in the JDM and AUS market 1989-1994 Legacy RS/2.0GT/Liberty. The Liberty is what they call it in AUS, the RS was the sedan and the 2.0GT was the wagon. The 5 spds came with either a VF-8 or VF-12 turbo from the factory and were rated at 220ps. The autos came with a VF-11 (real similar to a TDO4-13g) and were rated at 200ps. This particular engine is from an 1993 2.0GT automatic. Running it with the better maps and higher stock boost of the WRX ECU I would expect 220hp. But with a TD05-16 conversion, this engine could easily runn 300+chp in stock form.

It is a closed deck block with under piston oil squirters and forged crank and rods. The pistons are cast. This block is identical to the early WRX blocks found on '93's and '94's before they went to the open deck design. I got it because it was way cheaper and easier to find than a closed deck WRX engine from that era.

The heads are a high flowing DOHC design using a rocker designs with HLA's. These heads are actually better than the first gen WRX heads that were direct actuation with HLA's. The WRX valves will start to float at a slight lower rpm than the Legacy one will.

The AWIC does not require the use of a hood scoop on the car, but carries a weight penalty of around 30-35lbs when you factor in the water and plumbing. And it is a coil on plug ignition...

Lastly, I may be using the shortblock on another build and would sell the heads/manifold/injectors/rails/AWIC for $500...

kingsubi,
Got your pms.

Skully,
Sure, I would do business with you again. It is going to be expensive to ship, but shoot me an offer via pm

And I will be off-line for a few days over the holidays, so have patience on replies. But this is now officially a part out thread and the only thing from the swap not for sale is the shortblock itself. That is going in the Legacy Turbo I bought yesterday...

Matt pm box is full

quick question:

Matt,
found out some stuff and wondered if you had the answers. The JDM harness that this cam efrom did it have a mutli-coil pack like the USDM WRX engines??
Some of the JDM WRXs did not have this type and were centered on the manifold with three wires whereas the USDM ones have one for each plug.

Let me know,

James

PM box is cleared. This harness is not for use with a coil pack at all. The '94-96 WRX's were coil on plug ignition like the modern WRX's. I had to alter an SVX ignitor to use in place of the 4 channel ignitor that the ECU was expecting. I would include this ignitor as well as the original plugs to whomever buys this...
