Default buzzing from Subaru Boost gauge on boost?

I just installed the factory gauge pack on my WRX and i have noticed that the boost gauge buzzes when on boost whether it be moderate or WOT. Has anyone with this chinty gauge experiences buzzing? What can be done to rectify it? Is perhaps the gauge faulty? I may experiment with mounting an Omori or HKS if they fit into the stock housing face plate.

Default Buzzing due to incorrect tube sizing

I experienced the same thing with a "not so chinsy" VDO gauage.

Turns out it can be caused by using incorrect tube sizes. YOu are supposed to be using 1/8" tube, in order for the mechanical guage to get the correct amount of pressure.

That being said, even after I put in a nice 1/8" to NPT setup, I still get a little bit of buzzing at certain points.

Does anyone know if the tube length is also a factor?

Default The Subaru Answer

I called Subaru about this. The reason for the buzzing is not tube size, but the expansion of the little pressure diaphragm inside the gauge. According to them, this gauge has a basic design flaw which made the bladder inside the pressure housing rattle up against the gauge housing. They said after 5-10k miles it should go away as the unit gets more "relaxed." It also reads perfectly accurately even when making this noise, at least mine does.

So, there is nothing wrong with your gauge.
