Default What happened to that one intake . . .

that looked like an intercooler? It was mounted directly behind the throttle body. I remember seeing a bunch of posts about it a few months ago then it disappeared. Anybody have any experiences with that intake?

it induced a bashing session, with statements such as...

what protects your motor from water

the idea of an airbox is to have it right at the t-body and the location, allong w/ the piping would not be beneficial

also questions of heat (being located right above the engine)

so, in short, it was sorta questioned whether or not it would be a quality product.

I see only 2 choices in intakes...
$200 --> cobb

$100 --> Larry's intake (no, I will not call it **** ****)

depends what you want to spend. You'll prolly see the most gains w/ cobb, I'm not disappointed w/ my 3rd gen larry intake, but I don't like the new design w/ the bend in the middle.

AO

(in my humble opinion)

This front mount one looks pretty cool! I don't think they have a model for our cars though. It would be nice to have a similar design that has an outlet whole at the bottom to plug right up to the throttle body. Open the hoodscoop and go.

That intake was an interesting idea. I've seen those on a cople of civics. The problem with that intake, was that the intake tubing was so long that you actually LOST hp/torque at high rpms. Not good for the high revving honda engines. What I didn't understand was the idea of having a plexiglass screen in front of the fliter. Obviously they didn't want water getting in the intake tract but that kinda defeats the purpose of this design.

Lightbulb There's a new intake just around the corner.

It is scheduled for release in mid to late July, has been tested on a 4-wheel dyno, and not only keeps your low end torque but adds to it. On the dyno it showed an improvement of 14.6HP @ 5500rpm and 12.9ft/lbs @ 3750rpm. These results were tested on a 2000 2.5RS with an aftermarket muffler(Magnaflow) and Denso Iridium spark plugs as the only other modifications. The results can be seen at www.WRX World
This is an N/A intake on an N/A car, so don't let where the results are posted fool you. Also if you compare the results closely you will also notice that there is even more of an increase at the 2700rpm range, closer to 14 or 15ft/lbs of torque. At WOT you get an increase in sound too, similar to the sound Larry's intake makes.
Price is expected to be right inline with the rest of the performance intakes on the market, except the Ganzflow, which is in a price range all by itself. Thank you very much,
Gary Williams

Does anyone have pics of this intake? It sounds pretty good.

Pics will not be available until the patent paperwork has come back as pending. It shouldn't be much longer now. Your patience is very appreciated. We are also working on a model that will work on the 99' and older cars.

I think you are talking about the intake that TMR Impreza was going to make that came off the throttle body, looped around, and then went into the side of a box with the stock filter in it. Baby blue colored, right?

There is always my old intake though - http://8complex.mwsoc.org/intake.html - no water trouble until it started REALLY pouring and I wasn't moving that fast.

I'm redeveloping this at the moment. It brought back a bunch of the part throttle torque the dual cones took away. A K&N should be in soon. Yes, it still runs that dirty stock filter. I can feel a difference in the rodeo after I clean that one. This one should feel even better going from filthy stock, to new K&N . 60-90 is what this intake really likes. This thing with less mods, ran faster than my last 3 passes with more mods and the dual cones! 16.9's to 17.2's, respectively.

<img src="http://pages.prodigy.net/burninrubber/engineshot2.jpg"></img>

It starts to make better power about 30mph, but off idle torque is still improved. The noise is quite different, being funneled directly to the scoop. It's deeper, while the dual cone setup had a raspy tone to it. The one picture has a better ram effect above 60mph, with better torque than the dual cone setup I had. 60-90 is much faster with this. Blip the throttle at 60 in fifth, and you'll be up on somebody's bumper kinda quick. I still have to redo the scoop shield/funnel.The airbox is also correctly plumbed now, without emissions tubes in it (wink,nudge, ). The crankcase can breathe freely, without being boosted itself. I plan on finishing the development of this one very soon. stay tuned G
