Default I Need EA-81 engine for hovercraft. Ideas?

Hi,

Diverging from my usual wrx modifications I am embarcing on a project to build a hovercraft here in the bay area. We need a EA-81 engine and we are trying to locate sources for them - like salvage yards, auctions, non-driving (but running) cars etc.

BTW the EA-81 is the 1800 OHV engine 85BHP used in many Subarus upto 1995 (legacy, royale etc.). It is used a lot in small aircraft.

Thanks for any pointers,
Mike.

Correction. The EA81 was offered until 1985. After that, the Loyale got the EA82 which is OHC, but still 1800cc. You can find a fair amount of EA81's in any local Pick'n Pull. 1/2 price weekend could get you the entire engine for under $100 probably.

If you want a few tips on EA81 Mods for Hovercraft or Aircraft use... check out Ram Engines. They fabricate intakes, exhausts, prop mounts... everything you'd need for your EA81.

That sounds cool. I will check out RAM. The only place that claims to have Subarus is the place in Rancho Cordova (http://www.4subarusuzukikiaparts.com/) I've been calling and they have not had an EA-81 for a while. Are there any other places you would recommend trying?

Thanks!
Mike.
