J.
There was a recall, I remember it being on the MY00's because that's what I have. I don't know if the MY01's were involved. I was going to ask you a question here thinking that I could help but then I remembered that you are a subaru Goddess and I am well more like a court Jester.
let us know what you find.

Thumbs up

I had a CE light go on in my car last month. Some sort of solenoid error code was recorded, but nothing was wrong with the actual unit itself. I was driving fairly hard on the highway when the CE light came on. Do a search for it and I'm sure my post will come up. The same problem happened to another guy as well.

LaterZ!

Lightbulb Check your fuel cap!

when i got gas in NJ (a full service state) the attendant obviously wasn't hip to the whole "turn the gas cap until it clicks" thing . . .

my CE light came on about 2 days later, and when i turned the car over looking for what was wrong, i found the gas cap loose. i tightened it on and a little while later the light went out. the computer will still hold a code though, so when you get it serviced they tell you about it.

I had the same thing happen to me about 4 days ago. I was driving on the highway at around 65mph and then I look down and there is a CE light. I make the appointment for this thursday and then yesterday the light just goes out. Only symptoms I have is a rough idle and sout on the tail pipe so I am thinking its the O2 sensor. This exact same thing happened about 5 months ago and I made the appt. to go to the dealer and then the light went out so i didnt go. I hope the computer stored the code.

Unhappy poor jamie

Yup, probably the O2 sensor. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. CE light just came on outta nowhere, car ran the same (a few hesitations, but nothing unusual). Took it in and the verdict was.............bad O2 sensor.
Make sure to suggest a peek at the sensor when you take it in, I don't know how good your dealer is, but mine ignored me and ended up scratching their heads for a whole day and I had to get a rental.
Anyway, good luck!

I get a light about once a month. It's never anything serious, and normally occurs with not much gas in the tank, like a few gallons at the most.

Default hmmmm

Ya know what would be nice? If we could get some aftermarket 02 sensors that don't crap out all the time....damn finicky if you ask me.....and if your wondering, i've lost an o2 sensor (supposedly) from my ganzflow and i've had a light ever since i put on my MRT exhaust. I gotta troubleshoot that problem next, i think its hurting perfomance....

Unhappy

I'm a Slave to the Check Engine Light...(any Phish fans out there?)

Anyway, I've had my '98 RS into the dealership no less than 5 times in the past 6-8 months for the CE light. Each time it was a different thing.

1) faulty O2 sensor
2) crack in header
3) faulty O2 sensor again
4) charcoal cannister was cracked
5) catalytic converters were cracked

OK, I promise you all that I don't do any type of driving where I would be running over things that would hit anything under my car! I drive fast, but I don't fly over potholes or anything, really!'

Carry on,
-Chris

Default Wierd 02 CE code

I went into my dealer the other day with a CE light what had happened was that the 02 part of my 02 sensor was working.. but it was working SLOW, I don't know how or why it would do that but ohwell right? my mechanic told me that it was not under warrantee because of my aftermarket exhaust, but that didn't stop him from replacing at subaru expense. got to love mod friendly mechanics.

Thanks man if you're reading!
