I hope I posted this in the right forum. If not, please move it to correct forum. Thank You.
Okay. So here's the deal. I was talking to the previous owner about the Subie and we got into talking about alignments. The way he was talking, he said that most alignment shops wont mess with the rear because there is a whole lot of drama involved and something to do with drilling something or some crap like that. I have no idea what in Haedes he was talking about but my question is this, shouldn't any reputable alignment shop be able to do an alignment on my Sube with no porblems or will this be something that I will have to entrust to a Subaru dealership to do? I know it is kinda old(88 GL-10 Wagon[w/fulltime 4wd]), but one would think that an alignment shop could do this without any difficulties. And I sincerely wouldn't want to get raped on price and labour at a dealership. Besides, the closest Subaru dealership(s) are 2 or more hours either way(north to OK, or south to Dallas). If somebody has an answer, opinion, thought, or whatever, your info is welcomed. Thank You all in advance!!! Patrick

As far as I know, most shops won't mess with the rear simply because there is nothing to adjust back there

I'm not sure. Never heard of them until now. I live in Wichita Falls, and the only alignment shop I know of here that is reputable is this one place called Downtown Alignment. But I have no idea if they know their way around an older Subaru. I'll try calling them and see if they can do it.

you generally speak the truth As far as alignments on Subarus go. There is only one adjustment on the front of an 80's GL. That would be front toe set. If the rear is out it's time to replace parts. There are no other adjustments that can be made on them, period. They can check the alignment but there is nothing that can be done to "adjust" it. If it is out of spec you need to look at replacing bushings or hard parts such as struts, control arms and such. Last edited by Flowmastered87GL; 12-08-2004 at 01:56 PM. |

Okay. The only thing I was concerned with was the fact that the car pulls to one side when I drop the hammer on it at lower speeds. I guess its just torque steer, because as long as I drive the car normal(or as close to normal as I can get
), everything is fine. But Thank You all for the info.Patrick |

You should drive my car, crazy torque steer cause I have 304K, bad CV's, crappy alignment (from offroading and rallycrossing) and a lead foot
