I've been in the market for a tire pressure monitoring system and I feel this could be the hot setup.
For whats its worth to ya guys, I emailed Dakota Digital inquiring if the extremely high brake temp's that we see on our STi's would damage the "strap on" sending units that the system comes with. Here is their reply: Hello Eddie, The max temp the sensors are designed to work at is 257F(125C). Above these temps, the may simply not operate properly or may be damaged. Even though your brakes are reaching temps well above safe level, I would not expect your tires(or rims) to be reaching that kind of temp. I have seen that racing tires may run above 200F, but how far, I have not seen documentation. I would start with test of IR heat gun on the rim after a few hot laps, or the extended run which has your brakes up to temps mentioned. I wouldn't expect temperatures to stay above unsafe levels, except under extremely hard braking, which should have time to cool, unless immediately stopping with no cool down lap. I think I would expect tire failures if the rims were above that temp for any length of time. Best regards, Greg mailto:gwickre@dakotadigital.com
