This is probably total Plagairism but i thought i would post the article
2002 Mitsubishi Lancer O-Z Rally Exudes zest for life By Warren Brown The Washington Post Napoleonville, LA. - "My test car, an O-Z Rally, was equipped with the standard 120-horsepower, 2.0 Litre four cylinder engine. Compare that with the 227 Horsepower for the turbocharged Subaru WRX and 170 horsepower for the soon-to-be-introduced Focus SVT. But though its engine was lackluster, the test car's chassis, shared with the 280-horsepower Lancer Evo VII sold in Japan, was right. ....All current -edition US Lancers are equipped with 2.0 Litre, 16 Valve Inline 4 cylinder engines designed to produce 120 horsepower @ 5500 RPM and 130 pound feet of torque @ 4250 RPM. I averaged about 26 MPG in mostly highway driving. Pricing is not yet firm, but the price range will be from $14k to $18.5k." Does anyone else find this humorous?? Wow did MMC shoot themselves in the foot with this one. THe Civic EX w/ side air bags costs less, get's better mileage, and prolly handles about the same. Can't you get a 2.5RS for around 18k new now?? Well in any case there's also bascially a review of the WRX, nothing new just same ole stuff. It was in the Friday June 29th, 2001 Edition of the northwest herald. Pick it up if u would like to see that articles in thier entirety(spelling???) Jeremy

The OZ Rally version of the new Lancer will be more like $14k not $18k.
Mitsu is going to bring the Lancer EVOLUTION here in the next year or so to compete directly with the WRX...they'd be missing the boat if they didn't It's stupid that the tester even mentioned the WRX and the Focus SVT in the same sentence as the Lancer OZ...oh wait he's an idiot since he's a automotive writer... -myk |

The market is red hot right now. Subaru has capitalized early in the game, so if others want to join in, they have to get things going fast.

I totally agree with that, it's just the fac that Mistu is in such financial trouble that they can't afford a flop right now, They'd be better off offering a supercharged version of their new V-6, at least it would end up with SOME kind of performance. But in any case i see them holding on the big ticket EVO for a while.

Well, based on the specs I would assume they are not targeting the WRX, just the SCC market in general. That car should compete alright with the civics and integras at least suspension-wise. With the standard mods for cars in that genre, it could be a well rounded ride.

I would have to agree, their power is rather lacking but in the suspension class they would be a pretty fair toss up.

The Lancer is already coming to this country next MY.
The Lancer EVOLUTION is still getting DOT/EPA certified. Mitsu is having problems with the FMIC & US DOT front crash regulations. -myk |

The EVO will not be entering the country any time soon. The mitsu guys want to see what sales are going to be from the model that is coming this year(2003).Its a mitsu lancer 2.0 liter engine front wheel drive nothing more. basically its a piece and we have nothing to worry about for a long while because the STi is coming next year(2004)

About some of the new cars:
Mitsubishi Lancer/EVO VII: The US-spec non-EVO is bleh. With the diminished styling and very bland (by comparison) looks, it would appear as the Mitsu fans don't even get the "2.5RS" version of the EVO... a pity really, EVO IV-VI are some of my mostest favoritestestests cars on the planet. Nissan Skyline: Butt Ugly. GTR Looks like a Giant Audi TT with a wing. Nissan Skyline: Butt Ugly. Sedan Looks like an updated version of the J30 it's replacing in the Infiniti lineup. Can we say GS300 ripoff??? I know I can ![]() Nissan 300ZX: I predict a backlash against this weird overly futuristic styling trend.... the Z32 is the best Fairlady tied with the old 240Zs of 'yore. Toyota GT4500 or whatever: This is more of a concept than a "coming soon to a dealer near you" car. Wait until there is a consistency amongst at least the "aritists concepts" of the car.... either way the planned configuration/pricepoint places this car in Lexus territory, not Toyota... I've heard lofty figures well in excess of $60K USD. lateRZ "I once heard that car styling is alot like food, blander is better to appeal to a wider audience/market... but with the Lancer EVO... KEEP IT SPICE NOT NICE!" |
