Default Tire Noise (Kuhmo MX vs. Falken Azenis RT-215)

Hi all, I know it's a little early to talk about summer tires (especially when we are supposed to get our first snow tonight in Indiana), but I wanted to get some input on how noisy the Kuhmo MXs are compared to the Falken Azenis RT-215. I had the Falken on for the past 9 months and they were ridiculously loud. So loud that I loose a little of my hearing for a short time after a long drive.

I also have seen that Falken released the new Azensis RT-615, but haven't heard anything about them reducing noise. Anyone hear any info on this?

-Eric

My MX's were pretty quiet.....I have the 215's and they are just starting to get a bit loud at ~1/2 tread.....I won't be buying the 215's again, for the street....the MX's are MUCH better street tires, IMO.

My Kumho MX's are definitely louder than the Sumitomo HTRZ II's that I had before. They also have MUCH more grip than the HTRZ II's had. From what I have read, the Kumho MX's should ride slightly better and have slightly lower noise than the Falken Azenis RT-215's.

Man...your alignment must be a LOT different than mine, 'cuz I had the HTRzII's and those damn things were the loudest damn tires I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took the damn Sumitomo's off at ~1/2 tread and ****canned them 'cuz they drove me NUTZ.....the MX's were silent compared to the Sumitomo's...I thought my car was broken 'cuz I could hear all the stuff I haddn't heard before!!!! ....and the MX's never got louder than they were with ~3-4k miles on them....the 215's are gonna get ****canned as soon as I can afford new tires......then either new MX's or FK-451's...whichever I can get cheaper, no doubt.

Yah, the MX's are quiet compared with the RT-215's. The Azenis do have a tiny bit more dry grip.

I can only tell you what I hear. The HTRZ II's were about as quiet as the RE92's on my car. My MX's are noticeably louder on the broken pavement and concrete highway sections of NY. There are a few reasons why your results may be different from mine. First, the roads in Florida are much better than the roads in NY. Next, from what I remember from other posts, you're running more camber than me. I'm running no more than -1.4 degrees of camber. Also, you may have had some sort of wear issue with your HTRZ II's.

Don't get me wrong, the Kumho MX's are fantastic street tires. They have much more grip (wet or dry) than the HTRZ II's. With the HTRZ II's, I was able to run mid-pack in the novice class in my local autox. With the MX's (and only about 500 miles on them) and a front swaybar, I won my local novice class. For me, though, they are noticeably louder than the HTRZ II's.

There must have been some change in the tire, 'cuz I drove them from Hawaii to Florida on ALL kinds of roads, and off road too , and they were good tires....not GREAT tires, just good.....and LOUD
When I took them off they were worn uniformly.
