Question 17x10 or 17x9 wheels ?

OK, Before anyone thinks I'm nuts, Here's the project! 2000 RS is getting WRX engine with 2.5 litre block upgrade. Not sure which turbo yet, some sort of stand alone engine management, probably TEC III.

Braking will be 4 pot Subaru and 2 pot Subaru rear. Suspension will be Koni insert, or maybe even the SPT coilovers(haven't held one up to the car yet).

But I feel first decision needs to be which wheels and tires. The body can be altered to clear the wheel and tire, I like what Fitz did to his RS. I like the looks of the 275/40/17 V7100 Kumho, which will need a 17x10 wheel, minimum 17x9.

Bolt pattern we all know is 5x100. (I actually considered switching knuckles and hubs to go 5x114 bolt pattern, not completely ruled out, but ll try for
5X100 wheels first)

I saw some Volks that were pretty price and I found nothing larger than 17x9 with 5X100 bolt pattern. I some some FK wheels, nice price but they are in the 25-30 lb range. That seems a little heavy.

Has anyone seen anything close to what I'm looking for? I've been doing alot of searching, but only a couple results.

Thanks for your time and have a safe Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Cheers Brian

If you run enough spring rate. You'll not have to worry about the tires rubbing. Look at zzyzx's (Steve) 2000 RS in DSP http://www.zzyzxmotorsports.com/
He was runng a 275 on a 16x8.5" wheel. He's looking to goto a 17" for 2005. I'll be following him to DSP for 2005. I just received my set of 17x8.5" for my MY00 RS. I just wish there was a 245 or 255 V710 in a 17". You might look into CCW wheels if you can afford them.

Don't know how much price will be determining your selection, but Kodiak Racing forged wheels in a 17x10 are like $477 custom made to your specs. I'm pretty sure that Cobb's Conebasher had 18x10's made by them. www.kodiakracingwheels.com/

Have you looked into CCW? I know they are popular with the "high end" auto-x crowd.

I know for a fact that the Racing heart's can be had in 19x9@25pounds each....so the 17x9 would be lighter than that.

You may be able to get SSR's in that size and they would be light.

They are pretty nice and can do just about anything you'd need.

Brian, 2 questions.
1. What kind of wide fender flares, if any, are you going to use.
2. Can I Co-drive it?

I need to make a visit to the dealer, and talk with them. Maybe I will see ya there.

You can get wheels made by either Kodiak or CCW. Kodiak ones are probably going to be about $400/rim for 16x10 or 17x10. Real Racing can make some 16x9 wheels for pretty cheap, like $279/rim. None of those three wheels are ones I'd use on the street though.

Enkei Japan makes a set of wheels called the Tarmac-ES that are 17x9 and 5x100. They are not available via Enkei USA, they have to be ordered from Japan. Pretty cheap though, less than $300/wheel. www.irs.co.jp is a company that sells them, they are good to deal with.

Volk can custom make whatever you want, but you are going to pay big $$$ for them.

DWX-Thanks for the leads, I like the sound of Enkei.

Dilligaf- We'll probably send it to the body shop to emlarge the fender, I haven't seen any flars for 00RS that I like.

And thanks to everyone else, I certainly have some more options now.
