Default The Automatic talk...

ok, i ahve been reading alot about the manual vrs automatic. alot of b*tching and moaning on both sides and well I got an automatic and now I want ot start upgrading my stock 2002RS
I will soon be buying a intake and exaust. I have them already selected so I don't want input on that. But really in my future I am going to want to add a turbo or mabye nos. Well I want to know what i have to do to my tranny and what needs to be done to the car to prep it for a turbo/supercharger/nos. What can be done? What do you have to do? Also is there a way to change the way it shifts instead of the stock way the computer shifts? What other modifications can be done to the car overall? ok thanks for your time/input/reading. Ciao

I wouldn't know exactly what to do, but from what I know, tranny cooler, new torque converter, valve body and whatever else Level 10 could do for you. Ask Kevin Thomas or Joe Hogan. They know

Default If nothing else....

If nothing else, get a valve body job and a tranny cooler. It will go a long way and if you like fast shifts, the valve body will feel great....even without a turbo. I'm enjoying it in my 18 second wagon. Also, change your tranny oil to synthetic. Your tranny should hold out fairly well.

Running with just 5psi on my turbo and even Nos, I didn't run into problems. The problem didn't start until I bought my Nitrous bottle heater. My tranny's destruction may have came about sooner because I launch my car from a dead stop with Nos (even now) all the time. Good luck!

how much is the valve body job? does it wear out the transmission any faster?

Has there been any progress with the resistor mod? Paddle shifter? The Level 10 shifter looks questionable at best.

The valve body job I got done at Leve 10 was a bit expensive. The valve body job itself costs betwen $600-$700 dollars and the labor was for 8hrs of work at a pretty steep hourly rate since Level 10 did it themselves. Check with a local transmission shop to see if they can perform a valve body job on your car. A local tranny shop here said they could do it for around $400 dollars, labor included. That's a deal!

No it doesn't wear out the transmission. It actually extends the transmissions life by reducing the amount of heat made by the clutch packs and other parts. Talk to Pat Barret of Level 10 (see website for phone number) or read up on some valve body information on the net. It does to much for me to list here. Level 10's valve body job is called the Hydrosystem. BTW: Pat Barret knows his stuff and has a good reputation for strong automatic trannys.

Kevin- Do you notice any improvement in acceleration? Is it really noticeable? Do you think the regular trans. place would be as good as level 10? Any word on torque converters?
