Default hello- new to the forum- questions on whistle/ wind noise.

hello all.
some of you guys might recognize me from s2ki.com.
i needed a solid daily driver, i've always been a big fan of subaru
so i just bought a '05 wrx wagon last wed.
i'm still trying to take it easy until it breaks in,
but this car's a lot more fun then i expected.

i have two questions about my new car tho,
if anyone is kind enough to help me out
i'd be very thankful.

i'm a total newbie here so please don't beat me up if my questions
have already been discussed.

rpm around 2500 i hear this whine/ high pitched whistle,
from the front of the car.
i don't think it's speed related, the noise happens right around rpm 2500.
is this common?

i also hear wind noise from the mirrors, above 75 or so.
is there a quick fix for this?

i did some quick search on these topics but
all i found is this thread-

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=569754

and it didn't help me much.

what do you guys think?

This sounds like your turbo spooling up, and you should be able to replicate it around that threshold every time. Your turbo is to the left of your intercooler, on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I personally like this sound, because I know I am at the edge of power...

Isn't the break-in period on these painful? Have fun,
-- scooter.

Whistle - kind of like a distant siren? That'd be your turbo spooling up.

My buddy's girlfriend kept looking around for the cops every time she was in my car

Wind noise - dunno, my zorst's probably too loud to hear it.

seung, I know my windows make noise whenever I first get on the highway. I have to put them down a smidge, and then back up and they're good to go. Might not be your problem with wind noise but thought I'd throw it out there.

Welcome Seung...

Ya that whistling sound is our wonderful turbos. I love it! There are simple mods such as the intake silencer removal to make it scream louder if you want to hear more of it.

I'm not sure about the wind, but I have to agree with hondaeater on that one...
