Buy a new Mercedes with intelligent adaptive front lighting.?

Several decades ago you could buy auxiliary "mid-beams" that enhanced the distance performance of OE low beams. IIRC, Cibie had the Passing Beam and Hella had the XL lamps. Nothing like that on the market now.

With your $100 budget, clean/polish the lamps, and get better bulbs, such as Philips Xtreme Power, and aim them.

If your budget was bigger, I would advise you to contact Daniel Stern for his advice. He has unique access to lighting products that you would not otherwise be able to purchase in the USA.

Other bulbs to consider are the Philips Xtreme Vision and the Osram Night Breaker Plus.

Lets see
retrofitted Morette's with 4300k D2S (just waiting to wire up the height adjusters)
100 high beams
100 watt hella 500FF driving lights
55 watt hella 500 yellow fogs
LED 800 lumen floods on the top
then the turn signals pull double duty as LED white running lights that swap to amber when they flash.

All wired and relayed with a 110 amp alternator

No issues with the 100watts in the 500FF? i heard that they'd cause some issues (melting). How are the LED floods?

never a problem with the 100 watt bulbs, I have run them for a pretty good time I jsut make sure they have a good ground. no mentling yet and this is the second car I have had this set on.

As for the LED floods they are not bad, I am going to experiment with some different lenses, these are cheap chinese knockoffs, so I am just playing with them. If I were buying the more expensive nes I woudl have gone for the xvision solstace series

Hey Mark,
How did you wire the high beams to stay on with the lows?? I have checked around a little and have been wanting to do this to my JDM housings for a while now. I'm running a similar setup just with some more HID's.

they are Relayed so the lows come on with the positive and then ground to a good chasis ground then the high beams get power from the battery and the relay triggers when the highbeam ground is triggered. only downside is the lows come on when when I flash-to-pass the highs.

I don't believe they will fit. But you don't want them down that low anyway. They are driving lights and should be mounted as high as possible (inline with the headlights).

Well, the lights could be mounted on the top part of the bar...

There are no clearance issues on the top of the bar that would prompt that kind of fit question.

And yes, you could.

I have the RI bar for my Legacy with FF1000s in the top center locations - I was only able to get them to fit using the stamped steel brackets (http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=433) to move them away from the bumper. The center mounts on the RI bar are so close that the lights almost touch. Rallylights.com's info indicates that the Black Magics are not as deep as the FF1000s, but they are wider, so you might have to rig up a way of mounting them on the outside "bottom" brackets so that they are above the bar (for better projection).

Sucks those brackets aren't available anymore.

Or the FF1000s for that matter...but I suppose the 3000/4000 compacts are about the same size, so if/when I replace the 1000s, those will go on. Looks like the 3000s have the mounting bracket placed closer to the rear of the lamp, so I wouldn't have to mess with them...

One more question regarding these hella 500 black magics. I want to mount them where my stock fogs are using the kartboy bracket. I know its a driving beam but I like the blacked out look so i dont really care about that. So the question is are these compatible with the kartboy mount. It seems like they are the exact same dimensions as the regular 500s so it should work right? The only difference I see is that the regular 500s say Pendant for mounting and the 500 black magics dont. Soooo.....will these work or no? THANKS!!!!

Anyone else that can chime in? The only thing that throws me off is that it doesn't say pendant for mounting.

your first question was on the rallye 1000 black magic, now you are asking about the 500 black magic?

These are two different sized lamps.

The hella 500 and the 500 black magic are the same housing, mounting, ect. they only come with a blackened reflector and black cover.

Yes they will fit in your fog holes, but you would be far better off getting the Hella 500 FF fogs for that position (in a bugeye I assume?). They are less expensive, and you won't have to rewire to have them come on with your high beams.

They will also be far too low to actually do anything.

If you want the black look get this:

http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=4276 (fog version)
and

Yes I am asking about the 500s now for the stock loaction on a bugeye. I guess I will go for the 500s then and get the smoked shield. I actually prefer the look of the regular 500s to the ffs.
