Lightbulb BAJA Subwoofer

Here is my latest project. I've had problems with the factory sub and the dealer doesn't understand how it works so I scrapped it. I decided to install an aftermarket sub. The only problem is where to fit it. Since there is not much space in the Baja I decided to go with an 8" sub, it only requires a 0.35 f^3 volume for a sealed box. A 9in. x 15in. x 6in. box should fit this. But where can we stash a box that size where it won't get in the way of the pass-thru? My answer, remove that plastic waste of a space between the back seats. None of the stores around stock a good 8" sub so I picked up a generic one at the flee market while my order from Crutchfield is being shipped. This let me get the measurement correct and test fit before the sub arrives. I also orded a polk momo 8" cover to match the sub. Here are pictures without the cover and final sub.

And with the seat up:

No loss of the switchback. Just don't play loud with it like this!
You can't really tell from the pictures but the sub is angled slightly toward the back seat. The box is covered with marine grade black vinal to match the leather seats since they feel like vinal and I couldn't find leather locally.

Thumbs up

Very good idea! It will look even sharper with the cover on the sub. 2 bananas for you

Thanks. I think it matches. Not I have to charge admission for the women to sit in the back seat! Because the inside of the BAJA is so small, it does fill the cabin.

I think it looks great. If I end up keeping the Baja longer I think I will have to try something like that. Were do you have the amp mounted?

The amp fits under the drivers seat without any problems. It is the 6-way power seat as well.

There are screws with caps over them. One in each cup holder and two in the compartment. Just use a small screwdriver to lift the caps off and then unscrew. Very easy.

You could get a rear seat bottom for a Legacy or Outback and have it recovered, just a thought.

thought about going that route... but then i wouldnt be able to install a woofer in it now would i ?

hehe... i like this woofer install idea.. if i could make a quick disconnect on a modular base i could swap out a seat cushion for the center peice if i got to hual some company around.. and then swap in the woofer to pump out some bass afterwards, now id i could just figure out his whole space/time continuum thingy
