Default Will 205/55-16 be a problem on a 195/50-16 car?

I have nice snow tires I want to use for my wife's 02 Protege 5 with steel wheels. I have a set of 205/55-16 but I am not sure if they will cause any probelms (OEM are 195/50-16). Any ideas? TIA. O the Subaru content: The tires are off my 03 WRX..

Are the rims 6" wide or 6.5"?

They may rub, and the car is going to be noticably slower.

the 205/55 is over an inch taller, and so your speedo will be off by 5%.

My wife has an '02 Protege sedan, and here tires seem alot smaller than the WRX tires. I really doubt they will fit under the struts.

You mean the steel wheels? I haven't bought those yet.

Yea I expect that but my wife would deal with it.

Undepelo - You'll be fine using 205/55/16 on the P5 as long as the offset of the steelies are the same as the factory P5 alloys. A friend of mine used 205/55/16 on her P5 in the winter to gain some extra ground clerance in the snow.

not a problem. i hooked up my parent's ride (protoge 5) with 205-50-16's for winter tread. that's kinda funny, though, their stock summer size wasn't 195's, it was 205's.
