Default Ej20g into 93-97 early gc8 swap

Alright for the past few days I've been digging through as many conversion forums as I can, so here it goes:

I currently own a 01 impreza rs, I've done some basic bolts-ons (ganzflow cai, borla headers, brullen catback)... but I realized NA is not for me. I want to go a different route. I'm a college student so I'm pretty much on budget.

My idea of this swap involved me selling my current car; and then purchasing a cheap 93ish Impreza L awd... since these cars are OBDI compliant I'm pretty sure the jdm V3-4 sti's will be fine with emissions here in jersey. Also, I chose the Impreza L body cuz I want to change the front to look like the v6. Not to mention that I can put a lot of my current suspension setup into the imprezaL.

To my understanding people have said that jdm v7 sti's wiring is very similar to that of the MY01-2 usdm Wrx's... so the wiring part of these swaps are simple.

My question is that since the jdm v3-4's also were made in gc8 chassis, will the wiring for this be simple as the v7 into gda/b wrx's?

I have no experience in swapping/wiring as of yet.... I want to do this swap myself with the help of my friend who owns a shop. Am i just being unrealistic?

Also, I know that the jdm engines were meant to run on high octane gas.... Is it possible to make the v3-4's to run on 91-93 octane reliably?

V7 into wrx is pretty much plug 'n play w/ the exception of the avcs wiring and that's only 8 wires and a few moved around on the ecu plugs.

The v4-ish wrx motor into early gc does require a full wiring job ( although it is easier than a usdm wrx motor into the same car). If you have no wiring experience, I would not attempt it.
These motors run on 93 that we have in Texas w/ no ill effects.

#1: you only wouldnt pass emmisions on the rs with a swap if they plug into the obd port durring emissions iirc.
2:your 01 rs has a version 6 front bumper. all it needs is the front lip. the 01s were the olny GC imprezas in the us to have the slits in the bumper for the lips.
3: no wiring in an GC swap is as easy as a wrx swap. its all n/a to turbo, while a wrx to v7/8 is turbo to turbo. all GCs require lots of wiring work.
4: they will run on 93, and 91 will run OK. a reflash is a good option for these, iirc.

why not just keep the rs and swap into that? if your emissions doesnt plug in, you should be ok. the newer car is just going to be less of a hassle with maintaining it.
i may not be completly correct on all of these, but i think they are right.

I understand why you would sell the RS... Money. You have to sponsor the swap right? I just put a 90 RS-RA EJ20g into a 97 Legacy Outback. Some will say that was a stupid thing to do considering the OBDII to OBDI factor. But for me it was partly an economic decision. Anyway.

If you are willing to learn, I say give it a shot. I was mentally prepared for a nightmare(wiring) but it turned out to be just a bad dream
