Default hey deadbolt...

A while ago I posted that I got a new STi and asked for suggestions for mods. You posted a picture of a turbo. What turbo was it?? If you dont remember no biggie, what turbo whould you suggest for a mostly street given car. I would like maybe up to 400 WHP and I can live with some lag (more than stock) any suggestions? I keep hearing good things about the FP green... have a turbo similar?

The SuperZilla.

49 lb compressor wheel, TD06H high flow (with clip suggested for your application) turbine wheel, oil and water cooled. Including coolant supply lines, banjo bolts, banjo seals, oil return line with gasket and stainless downpipe studs (which other manufacturers sell for extra $$.) Comes with 1 yr warranty and free rebuilds for life : http://www.deadboltspeed.com/freerebuild.htm

Also comes with Monster Port(TM), Black Xtreme(TM) coated turbine housing, grey ceramic coated compressor housing and is available with internal wastegate setup (3 choices of actuator) or as an externally gated unit.

If you choose an externally gated model we have some great prices on the TIAL external gates when purchased with the turbo.

hmmm... will that turbo work in the stock location with a perrin turbo inlet? I'll have a front mount and some sort of engine management (along with proper fuel mods) before my turbo upgrade. Also, do you have an up pipe that will work the an external gate? thanks!

Should work fine, it would definately need professional tuning however. No installed pics yet, trying to get some of our customers to send them.

If you could send me more specifics on your car such as 2.0L or 2.5L, and any other mods you may have I should be able to help.

With a little WD40 and some elbow grease the standard size inlet tube can be used.

Hmmm... On second thought, I'm not quite sure I need that much HP. What whould you suggest to maintain the same spooling characteristics as the stock turbo but give me some more HP potential. I'll be doing all your turbo options (black hole, ceramic coating on both sides, inlet ported... etc) I'll have a front mount and I have headers and all my pipes to the rear center pipe will be ceramic coated. Any suggestions now??

You will never get the same spool up on a bigger turbo... bigger wheels take longer to get spinning.. that's just pure physics Subaru guys have to shake this fear of lag thing. Plus a FMIC will create a bit more time before full boost as well. If you're going to some decent HP around the entire power band check out his 18g options. The 16g is awesome but it's not all that much bigger than the stock one.

On the 2.5L you will have more options than the 2.0L, the displacement will reduce the lag on some of the turbos. I really like the IHI VF22 on the 2.5L. The ball bearing cartridge will make it spool similar to stock but the larger turbine housing will lend itself to better total power numbers. The KONG2 is another good choice, giving slightly slower spool than a VF22 but giving a little more top end potential.

The 18G is always a good choice for the 2.5L, we had one on our shop car for a while and LOVED it!

so, which one should I choose if I wanted say... 350 WHP and I have a FMIC and headers and I wanted spool as close to stock as possible?? Would the twin scroll set up on the JDM sti be good for 350 WHP? I know you don't sell that but I am one for a broad power band rather than peak power... hence the reason I am running the scoobysport 2.5" exhaust rather than the 3" exhaust everyone else seems to be running on the STi

I just watched the speedvision show on ultimate cars and I saw a car pinning a person in the seat so they could not reach the dash to retrive a $100 bill to 100 MPH... would 350 WHP do this?

Isn't the stock TD04 ~360 CFM @ 1 bar.....and a TD05-16G ~520 CFM @ 1 bar????

...or did I misread the charts that I saw????
...and did John Banks not post that he knew of 16G cars had run 11's without a bottle????

Maybe I'm wrong....

wouldn't that make it hard to shift?

anyway,

would achieve the same goal, and would be a lot cheaper...

hmmm... 11 sec quarter mile Sounds fun. Is that an 11 sec quarter mile with out killing the car on the launch? what are we talking here.. like 11.2 or 11.9999 ?? I would think that any car that could run a 11 sec quarter mile is a beast.. sounds like I want. Awwww, crap. I might as well get the superzilla. Who am I kidding, I know I will want more power and it seems like that is the biggest turbo I can put on with out do major mods. Looks like I need to start saving up!

I was talking about the stock STi turbo... I'm not sure how much the vf39 flows... Personally I'm a huge fan of the 16g but everyone else seems to think you need something bigger. ::shrug::

It is going to be really hard to get 350WHP and still have close to stock spoolup. The TD06H-20G with a clip will be about as close as you will find.

The JDM twinscroll cannot support that kind of power. Best case scenario would be about 290-300WHP.
