Default Mid-A Photography thread!

Ok, keep this thread related to photography, and post lots of pics.
Unrelated posts will get you points... Be mature people!

Took these tonight, all using my new D70 and a Nikkor 70-300mm AF lense I picked up earlier today. I'm trading it for a 70-300mm ED series when it comes in next week... All of these were using manual mode. (Auto is for n00bs) Shot Fine jpeg quality, as I have'nt installed a .raw to .jpg converter yet.. (stock nikon software) Note, none of these pics were touched up in photoshop...

Taken from the top of the parking garage in downtown Leesburg...

The next few were with the kit lense...

Taken about 3 months ago with my D70, right after I got it... in manual mode of course, keeping it real. Brian, even the stock Nikon View software is completely usuable for doing basic NEF (RAW) conversions. Just switch to RAW and buy some bigger memory cards.

I have a 1GB card I'm going to use those fancy black borders that everyone is putting on their photots, it makes them appear to look nicer for some reason... I'm also going to pick up a SB-600 speed light (flash) as soon as Ritz gets it in... I'd go with the SB-800, but it costs a little too much...

You are brave... I would never hang my D70 off the side of my car Worked very well tho!

Are your pics touched up in photoshop? I'm guessing you were using manual mode right?

very nice pics.. I'll post a few of mine later. I can't wait to my new camera soon. I've got the go ahead to purchase a Canon 20D as soon as I pay of a couple more bills. It'll be so much better than the 2.1mp P+S POS I've had for years now. I've only recently really got into digital. I learned everything w/ a 35mm and thought it was the only way to do "real" pics.

I can tell I'm gonna be the only traditionalist on this list This is one of my all time favorites, took it in Utah at Pink Sand Dunes National Park with my Pentax zx5n 35mm. I've since retired my ZX5n and use their new Flagship, the MZ-S for 35mm, but almost exclusively these days I'm using my Pentax 67II Medium Format work horse So I will be slow getting pics up since i have to scan them in after I shoot them lol. Anyway, this is one from my website:

Some from my journey downtown last night for the grand illumination. I froze my butt off but some of the pics turned out decent.

digital cameras have a very hard time with sunsets huh? Hey, I got a question for you digital guys. In those night shots, are the digicams susceptible to reciprocity failure like film is or do you just up the ASA and avoid that problem all together?

I haven't experienced it personally, not saying that it doesn't happen though.

Got a comparison shot with out flash and with standard flash?? I'm trying to decide on what flash to get for mine. Although I'm using a 300D, any comparison helps.

Just get the mid-grade canon flash. Don't go cheap... but you don't have to go ultra expensive. I can try to take a comparison shot... The main reason I got the flash was so I could point it, where I wanted it. By pointing the flash up, and back a little, I could make it look like natural lighting. I put the diffuser thingy down on the flash as well, and you can see the results. I highly reccomend getting a flash. Its worth the $250... And if you have'nt yet, pick up a 70-300mm lense for landscapes and sporting events... I cant wait to take it out to summit point

Also note that I did'nt even touch the white balance or anything in that pic in photoshop, just resized and added the black border. And when using flash, set the white balance on the camere to flash. Also use matrix metering, it helps alot.

ok... first this..

SB-600:

Built in speedlight..

You can see the effect of "indirect" flash, and how greatly it works...
