Default Falken St115's of Fk451's

I am looking to buy a new set of summer tires to replace my pilot sports. I am looking for which tire is quieter and if the grip is the same.

The 451 is a more performance oriented tire.

The ST-115 is more performance than the FK451 from my experience. Assuming you're talking full tread depth. The ST-115 has better wet traction as well.

The FK451 will be better when the tread gets thin, but that's about it.

The st-115 is a very quiet tyre, and has really good life for a summer tyre. I liked them alot when I had them.

I think ya got that backwards.....no, I'm sure you did.

I've driven both on WRX's and EVO's and I'll take the 451's any day, thank you very much.

thats what I figured as well. how could the longer lasting, quieter tire have better traction as well? just doesnt seem right.

Heh, talk to the autocrosser here in Houston that corded a set of brand new ST-115s at one autocross practice event, and see if they think that the ST-115s are more performance oriented.

I personally disagree and have driven both, however conditions & cars weren't equal.

FK451s are more performance & wet combination oriented than the 115s... no matter what Falken markets/lists them as.

Falken lists the 451s as 'Luxury sports' and the ST115s as Sport tires along with the Azenis. But the 451s 9 times out of 10 will out perform the 115s in both wet and dry performance.

I spoke with Falken on the phone today and they recomened the FK451's over the ST115's for a performance tire. The 451's have a AA traction rating and the St115's only have a single A traction rating. I think i am going to buy a set of 451's unless the prices come out for the new 615's real soon.

Uncle Scotty you are always dead on with info. Falken even told me that the ST115 is more of a luxury sport tire.

MXs will beat the 451s at full tread, in the dry, when it's above 60ish degrees (they NEED heat in them to work well). They will be almost equal when the tread wears down. The 451s will do much better 'cold' than the MXs and also will be much better in the rain until, of course, they're worn down.

I just autocrossed in my st-115's I've had for about 20k miles. About half life left in them. They were not super grippy but it's all I had for my first time out in STX.

Okay grip in transitions but got noisy on sweepers. COming from R-compounds for D-stock I wasn't too impressed with them but that is not why I bought them. They fit my 112 mile round trip commute perfectly, so I am happy with them for that.

I guess Tom Hoppe hasn't weighed in on this issue yet.

He won STX on the fk 451 for those who do not know

No one mentioned treadwear: 115s: 360 vs 451s: 280.

It's a stat that doesn't mean much between companies, but I think it gives an idea of softness when compared within the same manufacturer.

Who was that?.. you?... Did you make it to the event last Sunday?.. didn't see ya?.. you running X now?, I was in the afternoon run group (still in STE)... hated the course!.. couldn't drive worth a flip, just didn't get it together... DNF'ed last 2 runs + spun... major suckage! You should try to get to the next BMWCCA autox (on the 19th)... they have a lot less people and (usually) get 5 or 6 runs... it's out at the police academy.. funky little course.
