Default You know what sucks?

It sucks that I've been a member of these boards for over 3 years now and I'm still a newbie Not by some glitch or something, just that I'm not the post whore that I should be. That, coupled with that I have never owned an AWD of any sort (much less a Subahroo), really limits me to the "chat" parts of the forum.

I would never have found this community if it weren't for a "friend of a friend" thread that popped up a few years back when the Scoobies of New England invited several other car clubs for a trip through the twisties of NH. Very kool crowd in the NASIOC, so it turned me onto this forum. I wish my love for your cars was stronger. I find this club more awsome (in size more than anything) than the DSM clubs. Both car clubs are extremely active and have a ton of members. Even though I don't have an STi or a WRX wagon, I appreciate the enthusiasm of the club as a whole.

If I had it my way, I would own a SRT-VIII STi (SRT for the price/EVO VIII for the performance/STi for the looks), and the fact that "they" don't make those, also sucks.

Not a specialist at all... but not a newbie. B/c of my condition (nocomputertospeakofosious) I had to lurk (hate the term) for quite a while The local state goverment told me that I could not get a special "rear-view" tag for this, and so I hope everday that I go through Wal-Mart's 12 acre, I will not parish on my journy.

Lord bless Sam Walton.

It has to do with the amount of posts, not the knowledge of the member.

I'm not sure I understand... you think you should be a specialist because you have a low member # ?? You need to give back to the community, be known, and be respected by your peers. That all requires posting.

The DFW posse is pretty cool too. Not too many punks. We even allow a SRT-4 guy to ride with us It ain't always about the car. It's about the love of the ride..

i know that it has to do with # of posts...all im sayin is that to me personally when i take advice from a "scooby specialist" i would like to know that he really does know more than the avergae joe about subies. thats all. i think it shouldnt be so simple as to how many times you have posted...

I always instinctively look at member # and play attention more to low #s.

nasioc does rock.
# of posts has some correlation to knowledge i would think... can't get high #'s w/o being around and talking w/ a lot of people about subaru's.... off-topic posts don't count towards your post count, so it may be a little more relevant...

(maybe the admins should make it so that posts in the tech forums count more than posts in non-tech, eh? but then you can have tech convos in the chapter forums too... bah. too much trouble)

The system is bunk to begin with. I'll tell you why. IMO, points should be awarded on merit and knowledge, not how many posts you have. For example:

Member A - Has made numerous contributions to the tech forums, is very knowledgeable, and frequently helps out other members. All this despite the fact that he has a low post count.

Member B (similar to me) - Has a large post count, with limited knowledge. Asks alot of questions and occasionally helps other members with easier questions.

Member C (similar to you) - Low post count, not very knowledgeable or well-established.

By the current standards, A B and C are newbies, but B is close to Specialist status. Do I deserve to be a Specialist? No. The only person on this list that does is Member A.

Unfortunately, MY way of ranking members would be very difficuly to implement and maintain. What you are left with is the current system which is sometimes accurate and oftentimes inaccurate. It is what it is. And I still don't think you deserve to be anything other than a "Scooby Newbie". *shrug*

don't worry you can be a specialist to me! whenever i see your name on posts i will think "not a n00b, not a n00b" i had an account back in 02 when i almost picked up a WRX, but that was lost somehow? but does a noobie status really bother you that much?

ok i can deal with people who just join because this is a cool place...i can deal with people who join and own another make of car

but one thing i cant deal with is the "lord bless sam walton" remark...sam walton was a two faced scumbag businessman that started a virus called walmart...this walmart is the scurge of our country...walmart should be boycotted and left to die in a puddle of unmoralistic scum that they are

The titles do not reflect knowledge of the given user, but more of his/her familarity of NASIOC. And still they can know jack sheeet about Subarus, or how to start a car with a key.

That does trouble me as well there is no system that can judge the usefulness of a particular user's posts. I am sure there alot of users like user A in Dr_Wheel's example.

BTW Scooby Newbie is a pretty #$(*ing condescending term.

Ex. How many of the "Scooby Gurus" have pulled the engine and tranny and replaced said components?
