Default stromung vs. Apexi

which one would produce the most power and also, what would the sound comparison be like?

I have the apex N1, and I like it. In side the car it sounds pretty good with the windows up and with the windows down it sounds pretty good too! Power gains are minute but a little more on top end. If I had bought an intake with it I am sure I'd have noticed more with the two working together! The guys on the board say that the stromung has a real deep tone to it!

watcher:

does your n1 exhaust have a high-pitch sound to it?

question for everyone...

Out of all of the exhausts for impreza's, which one has the highest pitch sound (like a civic)? I realize that in no way will I be able to achieve a sound like a civic (not that I want it to sound like that), I just want my exhaust to be similar to one.

Thanks, Ryan

Your boxer engine will never sound like an I-4 from a civic.

I love my Stromung and get looks all around town from the ricers trying to figure out what I have under the hood (nothing special, it just looks that way... Thank you subaru for the fake hood scoop!).

Sounds great, very deep tone but not too intrusive.

I would recommend the stromung because its got a bassy growl...Where as the N1 just growls at first, but rips loose at higher rpms...That said I love my N1. And I have heard stromungs and they are nice too . If you want to be like a civic, the N1 is going to be a step closer than the stromung. Why do you want to sound like a civic??--out of curiousity.

But in no way does the N1 make you sound like a 1.6l pos (imo).

those 1.6l are not pos's..but anyways, how about the question about power gain?? anyone have any dyno results on either setups??

the apex just doesn't sound beefy enough for me..but would be good if you plan on turbo'n soon

if not the stromung sounds 10x better IMHO and adds a dyno proven 4hp!!!! lol

Thumbs up Dirt dog says N1!

Ive got the N1 and it is quieter inside the car than the Stromung, but louder outside. The N1 sounds way better than the Stromung if you ask me. Stromung sounds baffled and you only hear the bass, but with the N1 you hear it all...

I have an N1 also, and I love it, but it has a somewhat serious design flaw: it hangs down too low under the car as a result of keeping the pipe bends to a minimum. You will hit it on things even at stock height, but when you lower it, it will hit almost every damn speedbump you go over, unless you are *really* careful. I am sort of regretting buying mine, as it takes quite a beating.

After riding in Jewbaru's 2000 RS with an N1 on it, and driving my Stromung equipped RS, the N1 is MUCH more intrusive than the Stromung ever is. The N1 makes a whoosing sound up top, where as the Stromung is all tone the whole way (cant wait to hear it with my header). Afetr Joel put a 2 1/2 system on the car, the sound got much better, and MUCH louder insdie and out.....
my preferance is the Stromung, for sound alone its worth it. I will admit I initially wanted an N1, but the Stromung system is sweet! You will set of car alarms with either system...

why not get a 5zigen fireball? it's a canister style like a N1, not as LOUD but get's the job done. i do agree that you lose low end power but high end it makes a world of different. i freeway race and i have only intake and exhaust.. i raced some v6 guy probably an AT on the freeway starting at 80mph and i hit 120 w/ease, my foot was maybe 85% on the throttle. the 5zigen is japanese tuned for the impreza and isn't as large as the N1 so it still gives a sufficient ammount of backpressure for low end torque. as for stromug or whatever, i don't know much about them, but i hear the dual tip was dyno'ed to give the most hp out of the ones tested (which were, jc sports, stromug single tip, stromug dual tip, and some other bs). w/the intake and exhaust, it was dyno'ed to give the ENGINE 13-17 more hp.. but to the wheels i do not know. all i know is that our car runs 95hp to the wheels so yeah.

hope that helped a little

I noticed that I gained a bit more low-end response/power after putting the stromung on.

I haven't been able to set off car alarms yet, but that is a good thing.

The Stromung I have had the tip lengthened by stromung in order to move the sound back some. Otherwise, in a wagon, it is very boomy. I was lucky to find this little gem, from gtguy who sold his legacy gt wagon for a rex.

I really love the sound, but then again I haven't heard any other scoobies with different exhausts on them.

Hey gimpless!

I was looking at the N1 myself and the places to get it are at http://www.jcsportsinc.com or http://www.rollhard.com they both sell it. It seems to be good except that I am worried about tickets due to the way it looks. My RS already draws too much attention so I am now looking at the Borla Cat back with the million mile warranty at http://www.spomotorsports.com . Hope that this helps you.
