Default Some questions about intakes and exhausts

After reading around I'm little disappointed that most of the "good" intakes are for 00-01 models. I was wondering if there are any on the market that have the power increases like the ganzflow but do not lose the low end torque. I noticed that there is a ganzflow intake currently being produced for the 99 rs but is there any date of release?

I noticed that JC Sports Inc. has a cold air intake for the 99, is this intake any good? Is the low end torque lost?

I'm slowly learning about subaru's and cars in general; purchased a 99 RS about a week ago and love it. I'm currently in the market for a cold air intake and an exhaust. One more quick question. Out of all exhausts made for impreza's, which is the most whiney? I like the high-pitched sound more than the deep sounds of the Stromung. I realize that I couldn't get a civic sounding car but I would like to get something similar (a subaru sounding 100% like a civic would suck )

I love my scooby sport exhaust. Just the right loudness, not as deep as the stromung I think. Supposedly the JC Sport intake is the only one on the market that won't ruin the MAF on our 99s, but I want to see someone else use one first, since replacement cost is about $300. JC Sport also has a rather bad customer service reputation, but I have a local supplier for there products so it doesn't really bother me that much. I'm very interested in one of the ganzflow intakes, when they can be purchased as a unit, not a kit. If I wanted to put together an intake I wouldn't pay someone else to give me the parts.

Thumbs up

We are working very hard to get our intakes out into the market. Our 2000+ intake prototype was dyno tested to show an improvement of 14.6HP and 12.9ft/lbs of torque. (the only other modifications to the car were Denso Iridium spark plugs and a MagnaFlow muffler.) Gains were shown all throughout the RPM range, also noteworthy were the gains in torque at 2700rpm. Which was closer to 15ft/lbs vs. the 12.9 at a peak of 3750rpm. The HP and torque curves matched the stock intake power curves almost exactly, only higher. The testing was done on a Mustang 4-wheel dynomometer and the numbers are SAE corrected at the flywheel. With all the modifications listed above the power numbers came out at 185.4HP @ 5500rpm and 196.3ft/lbs of torque @ 3750rpm. The results can be seen at WRX World.com The car tested was a 2000 2.5RS, more info will be available later this month as we approach our projected release date. If you have any questions or comments, I can be contacted via e-mail or telephone. Thank you,
Gary Williams

Default me too...

i am also in the market for a good cai for my99 rs. I heard the rallispec one is stable, but at $350 i will wait for cobb or larry to come up with something. Then i have to figure out a good way to gut the parts in the fender, you would be amazed at all the useless crud in there. Good luck and have fun!

Lightbulb

We are also working on a system that will work with the 99 and older cars. There are several ideas that we are working on trying to come up with the safest intake that makes the most gains.
I am projecting that our expected price for the intake is around $250. I will be able to tell you more in the next few weeks, as we finish our first few production pieces. Thank you for your patience and understanding, we are working as fast as we can.
