Oh and FYI....

4 Hella Supertones + 2 stock horns = 128dB

125dB is when sound becomes physically painful.

Ron - Quick update to your spreadsheet.

Re: lines 44 & 45 - I've got TXS downpipe, TXS high-flow cat, TXS mid-pipe and the Blitz Nur Spec. (The chart shows no cat).

So I still matched the cut out, with a cat! w00t!

(Anyone want to trade a Blitz axle-back for something quieter?)

hahaha, I like the texas law a lot better...

your aftermarket exhaust can't be louder than the loudest stock exhaust on any vehicle.

of course, this leaves more to the discression of the officer, if he is feeling bad your car is probably louder than any other he's heard before, but I've never been given issue with it. even with my old bug that just had a stinger hanging 10" off the back.

anywho. great job as always!

I kind of did already as a I tested a Greddy cut out open and closed. 112dB seems to be the max dB so far, both for the cut out and one local guys Blitz. I wasnt able to get the "best" measurement off of the cut out though as I wasn't able to reach the cut out fully due to his car being so darn low.

And a shout out to samagon who helped me make my Excel chart a little more user friendly.

You can test scoobyimprza and BAC5.2 when you come up here.

scoobyimprza is running 3" straight pipe and BAC5.2 is also running straight pipe.

Eww, nasty warts growing on your radiator!

Just curious, ever tried honking with your headlights on? Do they dim?

If I had the money and space in my car, I think i'd rock that setup. Sometimes people just need to know when they are cutting someone off. Kinda like saying a big AHEM, lol.

Here is something I did along time ago on a Borla old single tip...
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=309583

Also, the statement about 3dB... it is not twice as loud, it is perceivable as a change. 10dB is considered to be conceived as twice as loud

The lights don't dim. I have a 20 amp fuse on the horns and so far no fuse popping either.

I will add the 10dB blurb to my statement. I forgot about the perception thing. What would I know? I'm only a sonar technician in the Navy.

I wish you lived near me. We could spend an entire day with the sound meter. All this is still in the garage waiting to be installed. Think of the different combos you could test.

I'll be there sometime, don't worry. I will probably be in Indiana in July as part of my "world tour" this spring/summer. I'm leaving here for school in San Diego in March, will leave there in July, hitting up Cobb for a custom tune, going to Indiana for a visit (I'm originally from Muncie) in July, and returning back to VA. My dB meter is in the glove compartment at all times now and my testing will continue. I'll drop you a PM when I hit Indy and hopefully can finally make it to one of your monthly meets. Otherwise, maybe we can set up an improptu meet so I can finally meet some of you Indy folks!

even if you are not here for a regular meet, we can get all the modded cars together for sound testing. One of the guys here brags that he has the quietest Stage II car around and I believe him, it sounds just like stock.

Awesome, let's see if he can beat my stage 2 of a catless Stealthback/Prodrive combo. So far, I'm winning the quiet award. While the wife hates my modding, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't mind me modding it to make it quieter. I guess I'll talk to you later about when/where we can set this up.

One note that I remember from some C&D(?) sound testing a few years back: the background for your "sound stage" can make a huge difference in the readings. E.g., car sitting on dirt with an open grassy field behind it would produce much lower readings than having the car sitting on concrete, in front of a concrete wall.

If the vehicles you tested had any other mod than the catback exhaust(downpipes, headers, air intakes,up pipes..) it will taint your results.

Umm ... no. 10 dB is ten times as loud.

Read: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/27_341.html

"Increasing the sound intensity by a factor of

* 10 raises its level by 10 dB
* 100 raises its level by 20 dB
* 1,000 raises its level by 30 dB
* 10,000 raises its level by 40 dB and so on"
