Get an unorthodox racing underdrive pulley. It really does help. BTW, where did you get your headers?

My suggestion depends on one thing, where are you going with this car?
Drag? Auto-X? Rally?

If its only power youre looking for, the first mod you should do if youre serious about adding power is camshafts. Yes they are expensive, here in so cal at ISR it'll cost ya 900 to make em a part of your car. But if you really want to add any speed to your car they are the first REAL step. They will open your engine up to use your headers exhaust and intake to their full potential.

If youre only out for speed and no attention to cost, well there is the three haunting go fast letters. with a simple 450 dollars and some faith you can really skyrocket horsepower, but well we all know being fast and furious isnt for everyone
Theres the risk of at the least some loss in engine life and at the worst, well engine or your death. But well thats what you get with the N-O-S....or No2 in the fast lane

Now if your car is completely stock other then those three mods you listed I would suggest stopping with power. When my car just had intake and exhaust it produced enough extra power to warrant bringing suspension up to speed. a little extra power in 2nd gear can break those weak stock tires loose on a turn and make you spend the big bucks at the body shop and not at the performance depot

As far as suspension, start with the 20mm sway bar, and upgrade your tires asap. get new brake pads and lines. That stuff should help you be in a better overall balance with your newly modded car.

One thing I learned early on is that, REAL speed costs money, not the overused speed costs money saying. You can get a cheep intake, exhaust, or whatever but small mods are just that small mods. No exhaust will give you 20hp, no intake 30, no pulley 25 at the wheels, yes they help maybe .1-.3 (if youre lucky) in the 1/4 or 0-60, but there are no cheep ways to break 13's (Except the one mentioned but thats kind of like gambling, you have to weigh the odds and play luck, win big at the risk of loosing big no matter how small you think that risk is.) without dropping G's. Just know youre off to a good start, and that you can do little wrong with an impreza as a project.

hrmm.. the next think you need is an S-AFC or some sort of superchip to tell you car that you CAN take more air and need more fuel. then you could get cams. cylinder head.. NOS? 50 shot nos is a good KICK.

Yes but it is a Harsh kick in the pocketbook if you use it neglegently. Yes it can be safe, and really reliable. but reliablilty leads to misuse and misuse is almost always worse them malfunction.

Take this equation

Any Street driving+NOS+

a. Any reason that requires an immediate decrease in speed ie racing and a hole closes up.....
b. Any nice turn ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE PATHETIC EXCUSES FOR STOCK TIRES
c. Any Johnny Lawkeepers around

= BIG FAT MESS

but hey there is NO OTHER WAY to buy 3 seconds off a quartermile for less then 500 dollars. NO F'ING OTHER WAY or i would have done it twice by now!!!

I still say cams, the air controllers are another lopsided mod.
Either they are your favorite mod and are great, or they are crap and do nothing these are the 2 opinions I have found.

yeah i know
but ALOT of extra power can turn a little break of the wheels into a slam happy tailspin. I watched a Nos'ed (?) GSX pull one of those...looked very fun if you own an import body shop.
And a turbo RS or one with some nos, well if you let it could mess you up real good.

Just be careful, make some handling mods before you try that sharp bend at 80 with your intake exhaust and headers and maybe a new torque chip and pulley... because without some help that stuff aint gonna fly (turn?)

whatever i aint trying to be Mod Mommy, i still say....MmMmmmmmssSsssSpicy CamMmMmMmMmMm

wheels are not a problem. I have 18" Motorsports with 215/40 BF Goodrinch S/M. These stick to the road like no other.

What about fuel pressure risers? Will this help any? I want more speed all throughout the power band, not really just for drag but for all out, anything goes racing.

you are done with bolt ons. there is pretty much nothing else that is worth your time. fuel risers and everything shouldnt do jack for your hp. maybe 1 or 2hp (but correct me if im wrong).

thats basically the only N/A hp bolt on mods you can do, exhaust and intake. Now its time to fix up the suspension, stick (or auto if you ahve one), and if you want to get more power N/A you need to put in new cams.

Listen, buy a pulley if youre still trying to eke out cheep .1's off your times. After that there are really no more go fast bolt on options. Plug wires, new spark plugs, Fuel pressure risers, fuel pumps, all will give you maybe a 2hp butt dyno gain (EDIT: just read andrews reply and realized i was repeating him.). but like i said before (I think here i am going to try and get it into your head)

I'd say get the Cobb cams. The only thing that sucks is, if you don't want to take out the ones allready in your car, I think ya gotta pay like a $1200 core on 'em. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Default Cobb Cams

Been in two cars with them.... yes... they are awesome.

My stock RS has a hard time (it really can't) keep up with Preludes on the road (I hang out with a Prelude club more than Subarus) but I got to drive a basically stock (Ganz style intake, 2.5" exhaust) RS with Cobb's "spicy" cams and we left the Prelude all the way from 55mph (on ramp speed) right up until I broke 100mph.... I really didn't know I was going that fast, the car didn't struggle at all to get up that fast.

Cobb sells them for $500 but you do have to pay a$400 core fee, but you just need to send your stock cams back to him and you get tham money back.... so cams cost you $500 not $900 or $1200.

Word of WARNING: If you cannot rebuild a cratered motor, I would highly suggest you have the cams PROFESSIONALLY installed.

Question What about....

What about cams with intake and catback WITHOUT the headers? Has anyone done that before? Will that rob me of a lot or should I get the headers before the cams?

What I said earlier about the 900 cost for cams is for full installation. At ISR here in southern california 900 will buy you the cams (provided you return yours to cobb) with the gaskets needed and all the process to professionally make them a part of your car. I would not ever reccomend installing cams yourself unless you are vastly wise in these things, because if you mess up it is not as harmless as messing up installing a ganzflow intake, the engine probably will die.

So what your saying is that I need to get a bunch of hot, sexy ladies to hang around my car to make it look fast..............YEAH!!!

And also get cams! From Cobb? or somewhere else? Sorry about all these questions, There is so much out there for upgrades and I have no idea where to begin. I want to thank all of you for your input.

Thanks
