Default Rumors Rumors... I feel like Im gossiping!

I was at the dealer and they said there was a rumor of a twin turbo 6 cylinder and a 8 cylinder... They also said Subaru was going to make a supercar when they get more established in the market.

Any comments???

Anything's possible, but I'll definitely be impressed if Subaru stuffs an H12 into one of its production cars.

Is that Mr. Seal from western washington university? I know he did a lot of work on developing the flat engines for subaru.

My comment is that I don't believe anything dealers say.

The H6tt has been rumored before but I think an H8 is very unlikely.

That H-12 wasn't actually "built" by Subaru.

under the current economical climate and subaru's position in the market - a super car might be 10yrs down the road
trying to establish itself as a premium brand will at least take 3-4 product cycles

Why wait 10 years? What was one of the first cars with the Acura badge?

The NSX. It created a lot of interest for the brand, and helped establish it as a premium brand. Could subaru do something similar with a B11s type vehicle if it did it right? If they learn from the lessons of the SVX? I don't see why not.

Honestly, I don't really mind the look.

I agree there gibjer!

Like Wevrick said, take anything/everything people at dealerships (especially salespeople) with a grain of salt. They were probably talking about the B11S.

And Supercar for Subaru, I'd definitely agree, it could be another product cycle or more out or required under a different brand plate. As current economics and brand perception sit, at least in their largest single market, the USDM, a supercar isn't exactly viable at the current time.

The B11s platform is way too big to work as a replacement for the Impreza me thinks... I do love everything about this car except the front end. More recent interpretations of Subaru's design path, as seen on Impreza photochops, would really make the B11s a beautiful thing.

No, that is not Mr. Seal who was the director of the Vehical Research Institute at WWU. When I was in that program in the early eighties, Seal had cast up his own four valve DOHC cylinder heads for a subie flat four. IIRC, Subaru took a look at what he had done.

They could've tried using that flat 12 in a Le Mans car. The Judd V10 has been fairly competitive in sports cars recently after getting its start in F1 about the same time as that Subaru.

No way that it will be AWD. You couldnt mount that monster in front of the front axle. The f/r bias would be like 80/20!

That's Carlo Chiti, former Alfa Romeo F1 designer who founded Motori Moderni, the company Subaru acquired when it thought about entering F1.

An H6TT would be awesome. It could be sold as the top of the line Impreza and Legacy, one being totally sporty, one being an Infiniti/Lexus competitor.

Somehow, I just don't think we will ever see an H6 twin-turbo in the Impreza. Legacy/B9x maybe, Impreza no. Again, what is my opinion worth?

I wonder if Subaru would have to think about an "X8/12" configuration with staggered cylinders in each cylinder bank a-la the Audi/VW "W8 & W12" engines so an 8 or 12-cylinder engine could fit into a Legacy-sized car. it's an awful lot of engineering and development costs would be high but how else would an 8 or 12-cylinder engine fit without a hood a mile long and horrible weight distribution?

Why in the heck would you need an 8 or 12 cylinder engine in a Legacy? Seriously!

The way I see an H8 or H12 fitting into FR/AWD and setting the engine far enough back is to make the front wheels electric drive only, so it would be a hybrid 4WD, RWD being the constant. You could use an uncoupled front diff, but at this moment I see the previous as perhaps a more sound option with more options for positioning of components for weight savings and distribution.

Some one said that one of if the first cars acura nadged was the NSX. I think Suabru is doing one hell of a job with establishing themselves with the STI. Yes it doesnt look like a NSX or any other standard super car but it performs like one. Subaru is all out for WRC and that is where they will derive their design and technology. They know what they have to offer is in many ways a step up from other companies as far as pure driving characteristics. They are just trying to get their foot more in the door into the markets they feel suit the company. For example the ESX Subaru drag car, who would have though it? They are going after the tuner and hot rod market. Their shooting to disuade the 20 year old from buying the RSX to buy a WRX and at the same time make the 50 year old consider the STI over the corvette. So basically Subaru has their supercar in the STI, they are now using the Legacy GT and upcoming B9X to lift their stautus into luxury so the STI becomes less ricey and more like a corvette as far as appeal.

This reminds me of when my 60 something step dad was talking about my car - just a standard wrx. He said it was like buying a great bottle of wine. Anyone can go out and spend $50 for a great bottle of wine but it requires skill to get a great bottle for $15. Its the same thing with the performance of the NSX and the STI.
