Unhappy Have you guys/gals ever.......

Checked your oil, on flat ground and after it sat all night, and it showed up on the dip stick a 1/2 qt. or even a 1qt. low and you add some then you drive the freakin thing around town and check it again and it's a qt. over........i feel retarded for asking but i know how to check my oil and it's happened before, just wondering?

Yeah, this is a very annoying sube trait. Trying to get an accurate dipstick reading when the engine off but still warm is very difficult. How come?

Hmmmm....My guess would be that some oil settles in the Filter/filter area while it's cold and that's why you get a lower reading.

Just a guess.

I usually get a accurate reading. But on a side note, I don't think your retarded, I dont care what 8complex says.

The Subey dip sticks aren't THAT bad. Has anyone ever seen one of the ones that are used on RVs? I swear that some of theose and their acompanying tubes are 5 or 6 feet long!

When oil gets heated it will expand, thats why when you add oil to a cold engine and check level after the engine has warmed up it shows much higher.
