Question How many PSI is too many PSI?

I just found out that my MY02 WRX's turbo puts out a 13.5 PSI boost at wastegate. What id like to know is, if i get a dual stage boost controller, what is the max PSI i can safely put the upper notch on (the lower being my wastegate PSI)? (ill only be using the top boost level about once a day, and dont want to hurt my engine).
Thx, Omair

You could always do it the trial an error way by notching it up until you hear detonation on a WOT run and then back it off. I can pretty much promise you that you are voiding your warranty though.

Wink

im not to worried about my warranty (if it comes down to checkup time, itll take about 10 minutes to pull that thing out ). Also, at what PSI is the factory fuel cut for my MY02, im going to use the trial/error method, but id like to avoid a fuel cut at all cost, as it would probably scare the hell outa me while mi going down full throttle .
Thx, Omair

Don't expect Subaru to warranty if things go wrong ... the ECU will probably "snitch" on you.

You can run 15 psi safely. Some folks run up to 16.5 safely but I'd get an EGT gauge before you start going that high.

Working at a Subaru dealership I can tell you it WILL void your warranty. Techs aren't dumb, they can tell what causes the problem and your ECU/check engine code will definetly tell them.

Besides you don't think SOA is oblivious to the fact that people will be modding these things, do you?

13.5 PSI boost at wastegate
correction wastegate on a wrx is approximately 8psi. it is 13-14 because of a ecu controlled solenoid...
but you already knew that huh?

I geuss i shoulda made this clear earlier, warranty or no warranty, im going to continue modding my car. I know subaru has an excellent lifetime warranty for my car, but if it comes down to voiding that in modding up my car, then i will lose my warranty, and the rest is my buisness. All i really need to know is at what PSI will i be getting a boost cut, and what PSI can i safely switch to about once a day. (ive heard 15 here, and 17-19 at other groups).

The turbo and intercooler are both rated at 19 PSI. Assuming everything else holds up, you can raise the boost to that level, but with no other changes, I don't think you'll reach it (safely).

Question

EatMyAWD, an 8 PSI wastegate is around what i expected, but when i mentioned this to my dealer, he said that was with the older models, and the new wastegate for mine is 13.5PSI. BUT, more then a few enthusiests have told me it was 7-8 PSI, whereas only my dealer said 13.5, i really am not sure what to think, im gonna wait till i get my PSI gauge installed in about a week, and see what kinda readings i get.
