Default When is the next scheduled redesign for the WRX?

Has anyone heard anything as to when the next redesign of the WRX is scheduled for? I know the STi has a redesign coming in a few years, but what about the WRX? Is Subaru planning on changing any of the powertrain components? Your input is appreciated.

Since the sti is based off the wrx which is on the impreza platform, I'd suspect that they will all change at the same time. As to when exactly that will happen? No one knows for sure. '06? '07? Check the News and Rumors forum for much speculation.

My friend from Subaru told me 06 but I would never dare to post that on this site as "fact"
I posted about it a while ago in News and Rumors if you feel like digging it up.

when 22b came out, they switched to the bugeye the next year
when s202 came out, they switched to the new age (usdm sti intro) the next year

s203 came out, expect something new NEXT year

car manufacturers always do somthing special with the last model year production units.

That may be true, as car manufactures usually dont come out with special editions the same year the car came out, but it probably is a big coinsidence.

Rumors say next year, but the US is usually a year behind, so probably near late 06'.

"WORDS ON THE STREET" is MY07, so probably mid to late 06, and they might already have a prototype. anyway, if u do a search, u can find some pix. warning: u'll either love it or hate it...

anybody got their eye on the upcoming european rules that force automakers to have a full 4" from the underside of the hood to any hard parts. 2006 is when it goes into effect. cars are going to have MUCH taller, more blunt snouts. For pedestrian vs car survivability. And since cars are global designs, 2006 or 2007 subes are probably not going to be rakish, cool looking designs.

Long live the frogeye!

They guys at Subaru need to calm the **** down with these redesigns every 2 years. When you buy most other cars, they usually remain the current model for 5+ years. It is smart on their part in that they may convince people to upgrade their old car earlier, but I read that they can seriously damage the loyalty of their consumers.

Not quite right. The 22b came out in 1998, years before the switch to the bugeyes.

I would have thrown my hat in for MY06 due to GM's newfound influence in the company, but if that's from SOA I'm liable to agree

Of course, other automakers like BMW won't really have a problem with this, or will find some still-good-looking workaround. But, I'm afraid I don't have the same faith in Subaru, as we all know what happened with the NA bumper on the 05 Legacy...

Speaking of Legacy, I just want the next Impreza to be a miniature Legacy in design. Especially the backend - the Legacy backend is 10000x better than the Impreza. If they did that, I bet the Impreza would start selling very well, as it would look almost BMW 3-series-ish. Of course, this won't happen...

The legacy already meets the pedestrian safety requirements. That's why the engine was mounted lower than ever (for a subaru) and the intercooler and intercooler support system are all new.

I'd say '07 model year will be the next Impreza or its replacement. '06 will be dedicated to launching B9X.

By the way, there was a Subaru startegy meeting PDF that was up here awhile ago that outlined Subaru's plans through '08, but I can't find it now. There seems to be a second unknown mystery vehicle being launched in '07.

there will be a facelift for sure in 2006 on Impreza and Forester. But, do not know the 07 will change again. Subaru is going to add the new grille on them. It will be interesting to see if they do a good job or not.

Subaru believes they already have "pedestrian compliant" cars in their new Legacy and Outback models. They've changed their intakes to plastic from aluminum, thus eliminating the "hard parts."

Seems like the engine layout would also work in Subaru's favor, since the block is so low in the engine bay.

Even though the Germans have abandoned their "same sausage in different lengths" philosophy, it would work for Subaru if they decided to use the Legacy as a template for a smaller car (Impreza), sports coupe and larger sedan.

It would except for the TMIC, which is probably going to be a stumbling block along with the hood scoop.

New redesign will come out in 06, and it will be just a facelift.

All new Impreza will come out in 4 years in 08, and then a facelift for 2011.
