i have a stock 2004 wrx with an sti wing, my brother and i were doing at least 230 (where the speedometer get buried) but i was at about 6100 rpm and still accelerating. is it possible to do 250 stock or did i have a major tailwind?

He says he was going about 140mph and wondering if the car could go 155.

I thought 155 was the top speed. I doubt the STi wing had anything to do with it.

Theoretical top speed is like 178 (gearing + RPM), but good luck getting it that high. Car is too drag limited. ~145 is entirely doable in the wagon, but it doesn't want to go much faster.

With a WRX does the spacing increments of 20 mph stay the same past 140mph? Basically is 6 o'clock around 165-70mph?

Spedometers are renowned for being around 10% wrong, especially at the higher end. . . Motorcycles are almost always 10% high,it says 100 bu your going 90. . . cars are most likely more accurate, but not dead on, I'd still expect 5% error.

doesnt the ECU drop the boost after a certian RPM in 5th? Making it impossible to reach the top speed with the gearing + rpm.

my best guess is that u can do 150+ on speedo(around 145 realspeed). dont think about theoretical top speed, it's impossible except for very few cars. the "real" top speed is when ur engine power cant overcome the drag, that's where most car stop going faster. being a very drag inefficient car like wrx or sti, plus the extra power loss int the drivetrain, the likely topspeed is around 150. these cars are not autobahn runners, the emphasize is on accelaration. as for topspeed, a 350z would be better, my friend was doing about 160(speedo) w/ an auto.

If you could bump the revlimit to 8,000rpms and with the stock gear ratios and final drive you could do 208... thats if you had the power.

I wonder what an STI or WRX could hit with the V-Limited lip (64% reduction in front lift and 3% reduction in drag) and rear spoiler?
Anyone know what an extra 3% reduction in drag does to the drag limited theoretical top speed? ![]() |

I was Down In The Boonies Here In Beaverton O.R
I Just Got Apex'i AVC-R & Cobb AP the day before... I Slammed 145-147mph out of my wrx. I could have went for more, AND THERE WAS MORE TO GO, but I like my engine not blown..I dont always drive that fast but at 12:30am in the middle of no where (farm land) I guess its cool..I should have video in a day or two... But you cant really see anything because its too dark and then a big High beam blurr passes at 147mph.... |

About 145, drag limited. Good luck with that, and drive safe. Remember aerodynamic drag increases with velocity squared.

Speedo error is so high at high speeds that I wouldn't even talk about how fast you were going unless it was GPS or radar.

There is no drag in school zones. Therefore that's the perfect place to hit theoretical top speed.
