Default 2004 STI has a dead instrument cluster: help!

This is my roommate's STI - he called and told me his instrument cluster is dead. Not just the illumination, but all the needles, indicators, etc. His AVIC-N1 is still displaying the speed (which it reads from a wire tapped to the ECU) but it'd be great to be able to see the gauges working again soon.

He said he pulled the fuses and they all looked good - He has not tested each fuse with a multimeter yet though. I know in the past I've had "good" fuses that were not good and the only way I found out was with a multimeter.

Anybody have this problem before? I checked the FSM and it wasn't very helpful. Under the diagnostics for the symptom (Combination meter does not operate), all there was was "Ground" and "Power Supply". Some guidance on a likely culprit would help.

Thanks
-nick

if the meter is completely dead, it almost has to be a power issue, right? follow the harness (should be harness c the one with 10 pins in a single row) back from the meter - maybe it got pinched and the power lead cut - either that or a ground wire.

Has he ever taken the cluster out? If not check the fuses again, switch similar amped ones around, alot of times a blown fuse is hard to see.
