Default Brighter bulbs than Osram Silverstars in two months

I talked to Daniel Stern this weekend and ordered a few things. He told me that in the Jan/Feb timeframe that Narva was going to be releasing a new +50% bulb that would be "better" than the current light output champ, the Osram Silverstar. No other specs really, just lettin' the light dorks out there know!

He didn't say and I didn't think to ask. I would assume the would be less than $30 for two.

Damn you Ron...and I just spent the cash on all of those Osram bulbs...

Does Dan have the ground harness that our cars need? Or does he only have the positive wiring harness?

Yeah, I know. My new Osrams Silverstars are on backorder with Daniel. I might give him a call this week and ask him to change it to the new Narva bulbs since it will only mean running with my Walmart Special Sylvania bulbs for a few additional weeks. I'll drill him for more info when I call him.

Anyone have a lumens comparison chart for all these different +30/50% type bulbs? Would be interesting to actually see how much light they actually throw down.

While you're at it Ron, pls ask Daniel which bulb types will be available, e.g. 9007, H7, etc.

Also, I'mreally curious how these new Narvas are supposed to compare with the H7 +50 bulbs he currently sells (which I've got in my Prodrives).

thx

Hey GravelRash, how are you liking those bulbs? I have the 65W osram bulbs and they were okay but are starting to dim a bit. Would like to try something else out.

Well, I've got the 65W in the High beam, and the +50 in Low. I installed them before final install/aim/test of the lights, so I don't know how they compare to the bulbs that came with the lights (still got those; different bulbs, visually, for Hi/Lo, but both 55W iirc).

I like the results just fine, though I wouldn't mind even more light out there . But I'm not sure my answer will be much use to you since I haven't done a direct comparo between the two bulbs in the same beam...

It would be nice to do that, plus compare with the originals, and it's just the kind of test I love to do. Unfortunately I think it's down the list behind rebuilding a water damaged bathroom, and probably a few other items

Ahh c'mon, just swap one of the 65w bulbs into the low beam of one side and you've got a direct side by side comparo! thanks though, for the input. yeah, i'd love more output as well, I thought about trying 100w bulbs in the low beams but am a bit worried about the internal wiring of the UK300 lamps melting. I know my heavy duty harness can handle it but not too sure about the Prodrives. Of course, HID is the ideal option but its just such a big monetary jump for me at the moment.

My email conversation with Daniel Stern about the new Narva bulbs today:

>Darn it, I lost your phone number!

416-766-2327

>Which bulb types will be available, e.g. 9007, H7, etc.

H1-H4-H7

>Why/how are they supposed to be better?

More precise filament focusing

>Guesstimated arrival date?

End of January

Hmm, I was just checking out his bulb chart:http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ulb_types.html

And it says that the 65w H7 bulbs I'm using put out 2100 lumens! The H7 +50 only 1640. And for comparison's sake, the D2S puts out 3200 (for projector HID) and the D2R (for reflector HID) 2800. Very interesting, I didn't think I was that close to those outputs with just the 65w bulb. I wonder how many lumens the new Narva bulb is supposed to put out?

Hmmm...good point; could do the same w/ each of the original bulbs too, for a baseline. If I have time while I'm doing the calibration on the auto-leveling system I'll try to do at least the first comparo (timing unknown; weather and friend dependent).

One reason I didn't just go for the 65W for both beams was not wanting to be a) too obvious to the representatives of officialdom, and b) not wanting to upset too many other drivers.

I have gotten a few people in the right lane who apparently were incensed as I passed them in the left lane; presumably thought I had my high beams on from their reaction. I'm fairly sure this is due to the single angle E-code beam - putting full brightness into their mirrors as I close on them. And now that I think about it, probably even more so for those who think their outside mirror is correctly adjusted when they see the full side of their car, as this would have them subject to the angled beam portion for a lot longer than if the mirror were correctly adjusted.

I may try to modify the internal shield to produce a Zbeam, with the higher cutoff just below outside mirror level for the "average" car. The drawback being of course that you lose some/most of the illumination for roadside signs. I've run a Cibie Zbeam light on a motorcycle, but don't remember the tradeoffs well enough now...

Yeah, do the test when you get around to it. No rush! Re: annoying motorists with bright beams...I can't say i worry at all about it. I would feel perfectly fine running 150w bulbs in my low beams for that matter. All HID systems produce 3 times the brightness of our lamps and are just as annoying everytime a car hits a bump, bobs and directs its light onto oncoming or overtaken cars. And a majority of those HIDs out there are badly focused reflector versions and not precisely cut off projector versions. Our stock lamps have a better cutoff and are, IMO, much "friendlier" to oncoming traffic than most with HIDs. I think people usually think we have our highbeam on because of the illuminated city light in the highbeam. for the casual observer, all they see are 4 lights lit up, regardless of whether or not its blinding. So they start flashing away. Then I give them the full high beam plus Hella FF1000s flash. That shuts most people up.

Yea!

I SOOOOOOO hate that. Even in dense fog and rain there always this one car high beaming me when I have my fogs on going to school. I only have factory lighting and bulbs.

And it's been going on for over a year. I choose to ignore and hopefully have the guy quit doing it. Hmmmm....
